In honor of my uncle AL, who passed away 2/12/07. I am the guy in the black suit and polka dot tie. The Marine is handing my grandmother (R.I.P) the American flag in honor of my uncle's/her son's service to his country. See picture.
As a Marine who has performed countless funeral details for deceased Marines and I can tell you that us men and women feel an immense pride and duty to your family when we perform that solemn duty (especially flag presentation). May your uncle Al R.I.P. Another Marine reporting for duty on Heavens streets. <salute>
Thank you for comments Cory, it means a lot to me. I find comfort in these words. It's hard to keep from sheading tears when you hear Taps. What you and your fellow Marines do for the family members left behind is very honorable, and we thank you. And thanks for your service Marine. Abner
I'm sorry for your loss. But in the spirit of learning, please understand that calling a Marine a soldier is an insult in most circles; your a civilian so most wouldn't expect you to know any better. I'm sure you didn't realize so I figured I'd tip you off. Again, I'm sorry for your loss. The service looks like it was wonderful and well deserved for a service member who served during a very difficult conflict. RIP
I appreciate the heads up. I did not realize this, so I have learned something new. Now that I think of it, I have never heard a Marine call another Marine a soldier. Thanks, Abner
Correction to funeral date for the sake of accuracy I meant to type 2/12/07. Oh boy! If any mods see this, can you please correct the date on post #1? Abner
