I found this disturbing article on Yahoo and thought I would share for your edification. They are telling us that most of our frozen vegies are full of bugs. Yikes! 8 Bugs You Don't Know You're Eating | Yahoo! Health
You would eat a dead pig, cow, chicken, and deer but you are "disturbed" that you may be eating bugs. Meat eaters...I will never understand them :aargh4::laugh2:
It’s almost all protein anyway. :sgrin: Ever visit a food processing plant? :Eyecrazy: Governments usually require testing for food safety and ‘allowable’ contamination purposes - not necessarily individual yuckiness factor.
I adore this. Of course we're eating bugs. How could you eat any food and avoid them? How about germs? Microbes? Microscopic animals? Of course we are. That's why I like to cook most things, but accept the fact that we don't fit as neatly into the world as we think. We're a messy part of it and so is our food.
Almost a vegan. I do not eat cheese but I do eat soy cheese. Soy cheese has casein* so I am not really a vegan. I also eat bread which has egg in it but I do not eat eggs (fried, sunny side up, etc). I do not drink milk but I do drink soy milk. *If you visit any natural grocery or health food store these days, you'll notice there are a lot of soy cheese products available. The implied message from the name of these products is that they are made with soy milk, not dairy products, and are therefore either healthier for you or appropriate for people who wish to avoid cow's milk for health reasons. But what they don't tell you is that virtually every soy cheese product on the market is made with a dairy product. That ingredient is casein, a milk protein. Soy cheese products deceive consumers, violate vegans
I really annoys me that so many food producers refer to things that have milk in them, however little, as "non-dairy". It's not just inconvenient to vegans, but also those who avoid dairy for other reasons, like Jews who want to keep kosher.
I eat bugs, alive and raw (non-frozen) a few times a month. Riding a motorcycle without a windshield or face shield during spring in Texas? If so, you'll eat bugs. I had a juicy one that was quite bitter last weekend. I wonder what it was?
This site tells you what is allowed in food - rat hair, droppings, insects, mold, etc. So vegetarians most likely eat some animal products. Defect Levels Handbook I have a vegetarian relative that also avoids animal products used in clothing and makeup.
:haha: I know what you mean. I grew up riding motorcycles with my dad and we joked about that all of the time. It's actually quite true.
A healthy body has a good immune response (proof: you're alive) and remember that cultural "gross" isn't the same as contaminated. Gross is an opinion, a perspective. Contaminated is what makes you sick. Aphids don't make you sick, now the pizza maker who just scratched his ass.......
Yep, these contamination levels can be shocking to folks that are far removed from their food sources! Check out the seasoning and spice contamination levels while on the FDA site. :cool2: Growing up in a ranching & farming area, and automating factories can both be enlightening experiences. :laugh2:
Ever wondered what the black dots were in your applesauce? :approve: In related news, have you ever eaten fresh clams? I don't suppose you flushed out its digestive system before shoving it in your mouth, so I'll let you ponder over what you are consuming whenever you eat an animal whole :approve:
Well, you probably can't get this at a restaurant, but the trick is to feed 'em cornmeal. Then it's still what it is, but at least you know what it is. Phillip Who baits his crawdad traps with artisanal bacon for much the same reason.
