So I received my bachelors degree today, and when I was looking at it I noticed it does not list my major on it. It just says, "Bachelor of Science" my name and the date it was granted. Example: NorCal Bachelor of Science Granted on this day blah blah blah . . . I found this odd, considering my associates degree had my major listed, my name, and the date it was granted. NorCal Associate of Arts Behavioral Science Granted on this day blah blah blah . . . Is this normal? My associates degree is from the west coast, but my bachelors degree is from the east coast, so I didn't know if the preferences change from coast to coast?
I'm not sure how common this practice is, but my BA diploma from the University of Guelph in Canada also does not include my major, it simply lists "Bachelor of Arts."
My diploma doesn't list my major. I think (personal opinion) it's common practice for it to be left out of the diploma and just listed on the transcript.
That is extremely common. My diploma (Georgetown) only lists "Bachelors of Arts" (at least I think so, the whole thing is in Latin). IIRC, Harvard undergrads don't have their majors listed on their diplomas (also in Latin) either, unless they were honors graduates. I am pretty sure that my mom's PhD diploma only says "Doctor of Philosophy", not the specific area of concentration/major.
I've just never seen a diploma before that didn't state the major on the document itself. . . I didn't know if that was common practice or not . . . and now I know for some places it is.
My BBA diploma doesn’t list the major; nor does my MBA. However, the MEd diploma does list the major (educational administration). Go figure …
Neither of my Bachelors (BA Excelsior - Bible Studies/Sociology) & BS (Univ. of Ala at Bham - Accounting) nor my Associates (Faulkner Univ. - Bible Studies) list the major. My Masters (Liberty - Counseling) does not, my Masters in Business Administration[MBA] (Univ of Ala at Bham) by default does, my Masters (Univ. of West Alabama - Counseling/Psychology) does and the PhD (Capella -Professional Counseling) does. So, it seems, some do and some do not.
That is standard practice amongst accredited institutions. There's no need to worry about the wording. Congrats, you've graduated! That is quite an accomplishment to a career or further education.
I just checked my Excelsior BS, and it does list my Psych major... It may well be that they didn't list your (Psydoc's not the OP) major because it wasn't one of their specific major tracks that they've got listed in the catalog or because you double majored. Then again, I would likely guess I received my degree from the a lot more recently than you had (I graduated last December).
My diplomas; Major listed; Quincy College Massachusetts School of Professional Psychology Not listed; Curry College UMass-Lowell
Interesting, I'm not digging mine out but from what I recall: Spokane Community College and Thomas Edison State College do not show major. Washington State University, American Military University, and Community College of the Air Force do show the major. I can see why the SCC diploma does not show the major. I guess I majored in business but the degree was actually one of those direct-transfer deals where if you go to a state school and you complete an AA in that state then you transfer in as a Junior. I wish that TESC listed the concentration on the diploma. Again, I have never had any employer ask to see my diploma, just my transcripts. And every transcript I have lists a major or concentration.
