I can't believe how bad this story is, nor how lucky everyone is that it didn't turn out even worse. The gun accidentally discharged and, whether by direct hit or shrapnel, the article does not say, three students were injured. Thankfully no one's injury was severe. I had sling shots when I was 6. The high powered kind which in retrospect were dangerous as heck (not as dangerous as the wood branding kit I had though). When I was 7 I got my first pocket knife and a single shot .22lr rifle. I of course was never allowed to mess with it without my parents present and they went to great lengths to teach me how to respect and treat firearms using this particular gun. I would have never dreamed of taking it to school. Kids these days (shakes head). Note: we lived in rural Louisiana...I'm sure things would have been different if I had lived in say, Newark.
