What would be a better way to phrase this as a dissertation topic? Violence in the Workplace: Can bad bosses and managers lead an employee to engage in workplace assaults and threats of violence? I don't want to use 'bad bosses'. Could I say: Violence in the Workplace: Can ineffective management lead an employee to engage in workplace assaults and threats of violence? What are your thoughts. My other topic is: The Impact of Emotional Intelligence and Leadership Styles on Conflict among High-Level Executive Teams in U.S. Corporations. Your thoughts?
As always, I have no relevant experience, but I do have an opinion :dunce: How about this, for the first one: The Correlation Between Managerial Incompetence and the Rate of Instances of Workplace Violence If I were you, I would see if they allowed emoticons in the title: :chairshot: Sounds awesome. I wonder if for a dissertation title the word "impact" needs to be replaced with something more specific?
Might not sound very academic, but I would definitely pull that dissertation down from the shelf and look through it if I saw that one! :slaphappy:
How about = Examining the Relationship Between Managerial Skills and Workplace Violence or Examining the Relationship Between Managerial Experience and Workplace Violence Incompetence sounds too judgmental and how would you measure it?
I was actually thinking of another word, but couldn't come up with it, so I left it at incompetence. Inaptness? Ineptitude? Inadequacy? Fartknockerism?
My opinion and $4 might get you a coffee at Starbucks, but here it is nevertheless. Violence in the workplace sounds a little too pop culture for me. Maybe pop culture isn't the right word, but something like that. I recognize it is a serious topic, but it also sounds like it's right off the cover of Newsweek. "Impact of Emotional Intelligence and Leadership Styles..." sounds a bit more academic (in a good way). I think if I were hiring someone as a consultant in business this is the background that I suspect would be most relevant and useful. Violence topics, while important, don’t strike me as being as relevant as managerial styles topics.
HA:haha:HA:haha:HA:haha:HA:haha:HA:haha:HA It has been a while since I have done this, but you, sir, have won this thread, and receive the coveted golden mouse award!
I am partial to PerryMK's suggestion of working emotional intelligence into the title. As I understand it, that would cover the vast majority of management failures without sounding as if you are prepping to grind an ax.
