Hello members- I am looking for a Masters and/or PhD in Comparative Religion(s). RA, DL, U.S. based. Thanks once again.
Does it need to be US based? If a degree from across the pond is acceptable, and you have plenty of $$$ to spend, University of Wales Trinity Saint David offers several distance based religion related programs: Distance Learning, Courses, Home, ; University of Wales Trinity Saint David Again tho, the price ... Full Time Postgraduate - International 2010-11, Tuition Fees, Finance, Departments; University of Wales Trinity Saint David
This is true. The study of Comparative Religion is a new field, partly. This may be one of the reasons it is not offered in great scale. Even when one attempts to look up Religious Studies (General, and which is the same), you will find only a small selection, BUT this small selection tends to focus its learning towards one faith, and not multiple faiths.
Hello, Michael. I hope things are well with you. Have you made your final choice? No, this is for a good friend. I often come here to ask for others because signing up for multiple boards, etc is time consuming for most. (From what I hear)
I have considered such a degree myself. One option might be a “blended” Humanities degree incorporating some APU and HUX classes. For example, your friend might take History of Religion, Buddhism, and Hinduism via APU. Then, he/she could (most likely) transfer those 9 credits into the HUX program which offers several applicable courses such as The Biblical Movement, World Religious Perspectives, The Non-Western World, and Values and Morality in 20th Century thought. In addition, he/she would be eligible to complete several independent studies and a thesis on topics of interest. To me, this seems like a cool option.
California State University, Dominguez Hills - Master of Arts in Humanities (HUX) "The Humanities Master of Arts (HUX) program combines the best of traditional graduate education with the best of distance learning." I think they just use HUX to mean HUmanities by eXtension.
That HUX degree looks pretty cool. AMU did not offer this within their Humanities section when I went, and I think it is the same thing as far as the kind of Humanities degree offered at AMU. I wonder if two Humanities MA's would do me any good. (Smile)
I have narrowed it to WNMU and Holy Apostles. Baker U. was in the mix, but they have not been as responsive as the other two. I'm having a torturous time deciding between creative writing and theology and have not been able to find a program where I could combine the two.
If you don't mind DETC, Perelandra College (a Christian school) offers a Master of Arts in Creative Writing for $7,200: Creative Writing Just another option to add to the confusing mix ... could complement a theology degree?
