Last month I finished school until September, and after a short break, I'm already bored. I'm looking at taking an online/distance course purely for self-interest, in something outside the usual core academic subjects. So, suggest something off-the-wall; I don't really care about accreditation or credit, this is just something to keep my mind stretched out and occupied, so make it interesting!
Website design that doesn't involve ads every other word? I'm kidding of course! What about something in audio-animatronics/robotics or artificial intelligence? I would love to take something like that. They may have prereq's though...
I suggest finding a CC with online summer sessions that last 6-8 weeks. That will still leave you a little time to enjoy your summer. To bad you didn't decide this a week ago as Clovis community college has some interesting criminal justice classes that I would dare say you have not taken!
It looked pretty tough to me too. I've been searching but all the "10 Strangest College Course" articles I find are "butt in seat" courses. I'll keep searching!
>> My microbiology course rocks. My section is almost over, but there is a 5 weeks session starting late June. **not a course for the squeamish www.ocean.edu
Are you trying to kill this guy? An AI class crammed into 8 weeks, that’s a lot of work...lol I think Clovis has some four week classes still open for late June early July.
I have an idea, why not take a course in psycholinguistics or sociolinguistics? Fascinating, different, worthwhile, fits my... I mean YOUR criteria perfectly. Now all that's left is for someone to find it for me... I mean YOU.
>> Maybe you - I mean Bruce- would locate those subjects through linguistics departments instead of social science? Also, you -I mean Bruce- might find industrial psychology interesting, I've - I mean you- no, wait, I mean Bruce, might find that subject VERY fascinating!?
LOL!!!! DL linguistics departments are, as far as I know, nonexistant. There were some independent study courses (I believe from Ohio), that I looked at several months ago, but sadly, I was too late. Budget concerns forced them to pull most of their classes just a week or so before I contacted them about enrolling. Sorry Bruce, you might have to settle on something else.
The study of a foreign language could be what you are looking for and may even be useful. If you have no foreign language training I would start with Spanish.
For some reason, learning how to pick locks has always intrigued me, but I've never actually trained to know how to do it ... DETC course available from Penn Foster: Locksmith Training | Penn Foster Career School Maybe comes from playing too many computer RPGs ...
