Does anyone know of any easy way to convert CEU's into college credits without going through a full portfolio evaluation? Is there any DL school (prefer RA) that will convert CEU's directly into college credits?
What is CEU? Central European University? College of Eastern Utah? or Continueing Education for Nursing?
Continuing Education Units. I earned 7.2 CEU's throught Rockhurst University Continuing Education for a Management course I completed at work.
Faxinator, Good luck I think its next to impossible.. The only way you'll be able to convert it is if the course you took has been evaluated by ACE and is list in the national guide for college cerdit .
One CEU (continuing education unit) is equal to 10 contact hours. One semester hour (academic course) is equal to 16 contact hours. 32+ lab hours equals one semester hour. If it could be done directly, 7.2 CEUs would be worth about 4.5 semester hours. This at least implies enough time to cover equivalent material of a college credit class. You should check to see whether the course has been evaluated by ACE. If it has not then your best option for getting credit for the material is credit by exam throgh CLEP, DANTES, ECE, etc... Generally speaking -- CEUs don't directly convert to academic credit because CEUs are generally awarded for "training" where semester hours are awarded for "education" -- the two do differ.
I tried shopping my CEU's for credit a couple years ago to around 7 schools, RA and DETC, and can say from experience that I don't think it is possible.
Thanks for all the feedback. I was expecting that the chances were pretty poor of finding a way to do that, but since you can convert the FEMA online classes into actual college credits, I thought there may have been an outside chance.
I had read that info when doing a Google search on the subject. It says that there is an organization that will convert CEU's to college credit for a fee, but the link provided no details. I e-mail the organization, but have received no reply.
Sorry to dredge up an older topic but I was curious how it's possible to turn FEMA CEU's into college credit but not other types? Hmmm...
The FEMA credit is transcripted by Frederick Community College for credit. FCC does this because they offer college courses that are equivalent to the content in the FEMA courses. TESC does the same. Pug
