What are the cheapest DL schools that offer BS/CIS or CS degrees, regionally accredited. Other than Excelsior, with their unusual requirements (at least one IT cert and employed in IT field), is there nothing else? Everything is so depressingly expensive. I'm looking for tuition in the range of $100-150 per unit. Any hope here?
Thomas Edison State's (www.tesc.edu) BSACT is very similar to a standard BSCIS program in terms of requirements and very similar to Excelsior in terms of total cost.
These two schools offer programs in the price range you're looking for, though their programs are only cousins to CIS or CS. Both are schools are regionally accredited. Bellevue University (www.bellevue.edu/Online/index.html) B.S. Business Information Systems (Accelerated Program) B.S. E-Business (Accelerated Program) B.S. Management Information Systems (Accelerated Program) and University of Hawai'i Online (www.aln.hawaii.edu) B.A. Information and Computer Sciences If cost is important factor, consider completing lower division courses from a community college (regionally accredited, of course), then transferring into an undergraduate program. Favorable comments have been made about Chemeketa Community College (www.chemeketa.edu) in the alt.education.distance newsgroup. I'm sure there are other community colleges that have on-line programs. Lowell Kinzer
Received my copy in the mail yesterday of "Bears' Guide to the Best Computer Degrees by Distance Learning". It looks quite good and all those who put so much time and effort into it (John, Mariah, Larry, and Tom) should certainly be pleased with the results. It lists all of the usual suspects, plus some programs that I've never heard mentioned here. If you are looking for a computers program of some kind, definitely worth the money. It's available at Amazon and through Ten Speed Press (www.tenspeed.com). Tom Nixon
