Has anyone used the Learing Tree to earn college credit? Is it mainly used for IT credits/certifications?

    Thanks

Getting college credit for Learning Tree course

I have gotten credit towards my BS-CIS at Excelsior for several courses I have taken thru Learning Tree International. The courses I took had been previously evaluated for college credit by ACE. I informed the instructor at the start of the course that I was taking the course for college credit. I had to take the final exam and made sure I checked the box on the final exam to apply for college credit. It took a few emails to customer service at Learning Tree get them to step up my free account at ACE (I think it's $35 if you do it on your own) and to forward my transcript to ACE. Once everything was set up in ACE, I requested ACE send a copy of my transcript to Excelsior. ACE did this for free for the first request and has a nominal charge ($10?) for subsequent requests.

    Learning Tree courses

I took Oracle: A Comprehensive Hands-On Intro and Oracle PL/SQL Programming: Hands-On. Both were approved by ACE for 2 lower level credits. Learning Tree courses are very expensive but my firm paid for them so I was indifferent to the cost. IMHO the Learning Tree materials and courses were excellent but their format is 4 full days of intensive classroom presentations with hand-on exercises. I had to start studying and working with the material a few weeks before the class began to be able to keep up with the rest of the class. I came in early, worked thru lunch and stayed late every evening to complete all the hand-on exercises too. This extra effort made taking the final exam considerably easier and I feel I wouldn't have passed without it. In both cases, I thought the instructors were excellent, but the person in my firm who set up the courses picked the instructors based on the recommendations of employees who had taken these or similar courses earlier. The course was given in-house to myself and a number of my co-workers so we able to do this.
