    Hello all,

There has been some discussion of the need for doctoral level humanities programs by DL, with some listers mentioning that Excelsior might be in a good position to broaden their MLS into a DA or DLitt.

I'd also like to bring attention to Salve Regina University's (Newport, RI) online MA in Humanities. Their residential PhD in Humanities seems poised for conversion to an online format, considering they already have the masters in place.

If you'd like to 'encourage' Salve to offer their PhD online at some point soon, I suggest contacting someone in their graduate department to express your interest.

    Good luck and best wishes!

Good call John - I have a friend who earned her BA (residential) at Salve Regina and she says great things about the shool. It's a beautiful town too. My only hesitation is that while the programs seem to be of high quality, the cost is rather high as well. Still, it would be great to have a flexible PhD program around.

I've been one of the recent proponents of a Humanities/liberal arts doctorate program via DL.

I feel many professionals who have thier MA/M Ed/MBA would be interested in a doctorate that is not necessarily professional preparation directly related to their profession. I would love to see more multidiciplinary Doctorates, where breadth of study is valued.

I like the looks of Excelsior's MLS and TESC's MAPS degrees, but since I will already have my masters (for teaching certification), I would like to move on to a terminal degree within the content areas. I'm not going to compete for a top notch university or school superintendent job so why not?

Aside from Regina or Excelsior, I see AMU/APUS as a good school to kick off an anternative Doctorate, maybe the Doctor of Military Studies degree they once received approval to issue. Thier catalog is very extensive.

Sorry about the follow on post, bad E- manners probably...

Word to Excelsior... Don't re-invent the wheel

Look at this program and see if it could meet Excelsior and TESC philosophies. 39 hours past masters, in a multidicipliary, humanities rich curriculum. No GRE necessary because it targests mature professionals. Drew rewards this with a D Litt instead of PhD becuase the program is not designed for potential professors.

I know what Drew and Salve Regina have in common

both residential programs are expensive... and you have to live in one of the most expensive cities in America to study there. Go DL!
