Hi folks, I'm looking to obtain a BS in Business Administration (Management). I’m a high school graduate who has been out of academia for over 20 years. I work full time and I'm married with children. My schedule will not allow me to attend regular classes, but I do have sufficient time available during the week to devote to studying. I see my only option as enrolling in a distance learning program that I can complete online. I'm a CA resident and would prefer a program administered through the CSU or UC system, but I’ve been unable to find such a program. I’m considering the Washington State University distance learning program. It looks like I can take core classes online through Bellevue Community College or Edmonds Community College and transfer the credit to WSU. Does this sound like a good plan? Does anyone have any advice or alternatives to suggest? Thanks for the help in advance.
Hotch, A good place to start is http://bain4weeks.com The site has a lot of valuable information on acquiring credit through testing. Don't be thrown off by the name. The site is respected and the information legitimate. Good Luck, Tom
Agreed, I would suggest looking into testing out of as much as possible. You will be amazed at how much 20 years of life after high school has educated you.
Several California Community colleges also offer DL programs, at a very low cost, and at least two Cal State schools offer DL Bachelors: CSUB Bachelor of Science ONLINE in Environmental Resource Management and CSUDH Bachelor of Science Quality Assurance Also if you are interested in the WSU program be sure to check the WICH/WUE program to get reduced tuition.

You are precisely the kind of individual I had in mind when I created a Web site listing more than 200 regionally accredited business related undergraduate degrees programs that can be completed entirely via distance education. Just click on the link below my name.
Hi, welcome to Degreeinfo. My advice would be to check out Gus Sainz's excellent webpage devoted to distance learning bachelors degree programs in business: http://collegedegrees.tripod.com/ The UC system doesn't offer distance learning degrees (with one exception that I know of, a masters in criminal justice). The CSU system has a lot of distance learning, but not in bachelors level business, as far as I know. For in-state California programs, you might look at National University, Alliant Intl. U., St. Mary's College (short residency), U. La Verne, and the quasi-Californian Touro University International. But these are all private schools and aren't going to be particularly cheap. With the exception of St. Mary's, none of them are especially strong academically either. I'd definitely look out of state as well. That's one of the advantages of distance learning, it allows you to widen your geographic horizons. Yeah, in fact it sounds like a great plan. Washington State University is a well known and highly respected school. It's AACSB accredited. (That's a specialized business accreditation that can sometimes be valuable.) There are other programs with lower per-unit cost though. But if you take a lot of your general ed at community college and then transfer it in, you will probably cut your costs quite a bit. I'd look around a bit on Gus' page and see what the competition looks like, but frankly, your Wazoo plan sounds like a winner to me.
