    Hello all,

Anyone has heard of, or have received education from, this Barrington University?

Even though I found UMass on the USDLA site, and UMass has just recently won an award from USDLA, it just gives me a feeling that it's one of those so-called universities that happen to have a nice name.

    Thanks,

    Mike.

If you think the Universit of Massachusetts is a "so called university," you might be severely disappointed in Barrington, which isn't a university at all.

    Hi again Rich,

Well, I too suspect Barrington is a fake too. But as I see UMass is listed on the same page with Barringinton, I just couldn't help but to think "Mmmm........" and gives all schools listed in that page a second thought.

But hey, if USDLA is so good, how come it enlists Barrington in its site? Doesn't that give a misreprestnation to others like me?

    Thanks Rich,

    Mike.

While it is unfortunate that the USDLA chooses to list Barrington among accredited colleges and universities, that decision has no bearing on the quality and legitimacy of the others listed. Nor does it have any bearing on Barrington's (lack of) legitimacy.

Perhaps this is a question best posed to the USDLA?

The US Distance Learning Association is a private body that anyone can join and be listed as a member. While it lists organizations that are interested in DL, it should not be considered a definitive resource.

There are many search engines that will help find DL programs and courses, but due to wealth of information the old phrase "Caveat Emptor" (buyer beware) strongly applies.

Doing quick searches will identify many "schools" that seem to have wonderful programs but upon closer examination have serious flaws.

Several schools that have been extensively discussed on this forum fall into this category (in my opinion (IMO)) such as St, Regis, Berne, Kenedy-Western, to name but a few.

Barrington (and about 10 other sister "schools") fall into this group.

Yes the research is difficult, but you are making a decision that can affect the rest of your life. Be carefull.

Thanks for your reply! This clears up the clouds certainly!

    But what is IMO anyway?

    IMO = In My Opinion

As Mike mentioned, the USDLA is a private organization that anyone can join. Membership is not a sign of legitimacy any more than membership in the American Automobile Association (AAA) is an endorsement of one's driving ability.

Barrington University was changed to University of Atlanta and we have all files of previous students who graduated from barrington, and all students, employers can verify and get records, degrees and transcripts of their barrington programs. If any new student wants to enrol now, he or she will fill out University of Atlanta applications and not Barrington University anymore since 2006. We don't disclaim ourselves from any liability towards diplomas and transcripts provided by Barrington University.
