    Hello all,

I am a new member of this forum. And I recently came across this BA in 4 weeks website. www.bain4weeks.com

Well, I am **VERY** concerned if this is another degree mill or not, 'cos getting a BA in 4 weeks just sound too good (and too fake) to be true.

    Any comments are welcome!

    Thanks,

    Mike

you have got www.bain4weeks.com completely wrong. Its not a University or a College. only a guideline and links to others

    Not a mill.

"BA in 4 weeks" is just a catchy phrase, not to be taken literally. Nobody has ever got a real BA in 4 weeks, but adults with appropriate knowledge can get one in about a year.

The Website is legitimate, and it tells you only about legitimate, Regionally Accredited schools.

This website, and the concepts behind it, have been discussed at great length on this board. Please use the Search function to find out more.

BA in Four Weeks is not a mill. It is only a guide to how one might be able to obtain a degree by taking various tests such as DANTES, CLEP, etc. The website does not offer a degree.

You know, from time to time someone posts something about the name of the website "BA in 4 Weeks." Catchy as it may be, a name change for the site would probably be a good idea. I believe that the name misconstrues the concept of DL and gives the false impression that a legitimate RA degree can be knocked out in just a few weeks, as evidenced by the occasional DL novice questioning the legitimacy of such an endeavor. I believe that to work towards the advancement of DL and to break down its general misconceptions, a name change for this web site would not be a bad idea.

Oh, by the way, I think the content of the site is excellent. I'm just not too crazy about the name.

Last time, 2-3 years ago, that idea was put to Lawrie they were fightin' words. At this point, I don't think Lawrie will actually respond.

The website is legit, however count on over a year to finish. Keep in mind this is not a typical case. I am six courses away from my bachelor and it has taken me a year so far. This is much better than the regular four years that it normally takes.

    Good luck

The name "BAin4weeks" caught my attention while doing some research on fast-tracked degree programs. Because of that site (and the archives here), I tested out of 60 credits in 10 weeks ad have a 4.0 GPA (so far). I would have taken more, but my proctor has been teaching a class for a month and I can't take any exams until mid Sept. I cetainly could not have done an "AAin2weeks" but the theory is sound.

My point is that Lawrie's 4 week concept caught my attention and might be the deciding factor in me getting my degree in 4-5 months total. Had he sold the idea as "BAin1year" I doubt that I would have thought it possible to complete it in less time.

It's a marketing phrase and quite good one, I think. He does lay it all out there and should the stars align for test dates and such, you should be able to finish quickly. Four weeks? I would be amazed, but many things amaze me.

"A National Guard sergeant once crammed for, took, and passed three GRE exams in a row, thereby earning 90 semester units in ten and a half hours of testing. Then he took five CLEP exams in two days, and earned 30 more units, which was enough to earn an accredited bachelor's degree (from what is now Excelsior College), start to finish, in 18 hours, starting absolutely from scratch with no college credit."

Page 73 of Bear's Guide to Earning Degrees by Distance Learning 14th edition, as quoted on the website BA in 4 Weeks.

I'm very aware of that misleading anecdote.

What most people would understand by "BA in 4 Weeks" is that you could start from scratch and get a BA 4 weeks from now. Since GRE subject exams are offered only 3 times a year, there's no way the National Guard sergeant did that in 4 weeks.

While the sergeant's 18 hours were indeed a feat, they were not 18 consecutive hours, and did not include study hours.

And he couldn't do it today. Bears' Guide mentions that Regents/Excelsior switched to a sliding scale of credit for the GRE subject exams, but doesn't mention that a score at the 35th percentile, worth 30 credits before, was worth 3 credits after. So 90 of the National Guard sergeant's credits might be worth only 9 credits today!

I stand by what I said. Nobody has ever got a real BA in 4 weeks.

OK, let me wipe the egg off my face.

In a Usenet post, Dr Bear wrote: "It also used to be the case that the GRE was given every weekend in Washington. I once co-starred (so to speak) in an infomercial, in Arkansas, along with a National Guard Sergeant, who not only did his Regents BA with 3 GREs and a CLEP, but did it all in one weekend."

I only looked at (but didn't take) CS and Math GREs. I think they cover good chunk of undergrad curriculum on subjects. No way you can prepare for on of these from ground zero in a few weeks. Unless, of course, you actually took those courses or learned equivalent material otherwise.

Here is the cool thing about that site. If you already have the knowledge to pass those tests beforehand you COULD get a BA in 4 weeks.

However, most people do not have this knowledge and must spend some time studying (and if they are not very good test takers, it may be a better idea to take classes). It is an interesting "put up or shut up" response to those people who say they already know everything that one would learn in undergrad, so they shouldn't have to sit in a class for the degree.

You could use the site as a guide on how to mix and match tests to get the most credit. I was able to complete 51 credits in 6 weeks to complete my BS from COSC.

No, it is to be taken quite literally. It is not a "catchy phrase". There is no misdirection in BA in 4 Weeks. No smoke and mirrors. No metaphor. I mean what is written there to be taken at face value.

No. 90% of the intelligent and curious, can complete all requirements within one year, and a large percentage of that 90% could do so in under six month. Those "with appropriate knowledge", need only revise, and can earn all required credit necessary for conferral of a BA in 4 weeks.

When the prevalence of learners with prior usable credit is taken into account The timelines shrink.
