I've been accepted into the NCU doctoral program, but was dismayed to find out they are only allowing 6 units transfer, and now want 75 units completed. I realize my Masters was not in the same field, but these additional units will mean an additional year to complete and thousands of dollars more. They've included six "leveling" courses, which seems excessive. Anyone else encounter this? My BS was in Health Science, my MS in Education, plus I had two additional years post-grad coursework.
The PhD program is in Psychology/Behavioural Medicine.

The number of transfer crdits is about right for most RA PhD programs that I have explored. The program I am in (Colorado State - Industrial Engineering) allows a maximum of 10 taken before enrollment, and requires 72 credits after a bachelors (sic?), of whihc a maximum of 30 can come from a previous masters that needs to be in a closely related field (mine was an MBA with thesis whihc counted for the engineering management component).

Since your MS was in a different filed (Education) you are probably lucky to get 6 credits. You might take a look and see if you can relate any of your previous courses to the required course for this new program and challenge them individually.

    Good luck.

It just feels like starting all over when all those Masters level courses and degree aren't accepted. I'd expected to complete 51 units and was pretty downhearted to see 75. How many semester courses can you handle while still working full-time?
I really need to be done within three years.
