Hello friends, pardon my English, I am writing from Puerto Rico.

    What you think guys ?

Months ago, I requested to PWU a catalogue. I found it interesting, but with the information that I learned with you, I realized, that although the degree is legal and valid, is useless in the academic world. Nevertheless, recently, I received a letter of PWU, that in the first paragraph’s , explained the information of the university and in the last lines says that if I decide to study now with them I must consider that the rising cost of the programs and the new State regulations make it necessary to completes the program in a timely to manner.

In addition, that "this could be your last opportunity to earn your degree in this alternative way".

You think that PWU go to close?

You think that the request of accreditation of Century and California Coast has influenced PWU to improve its programs and go to apply for the accreditation?

The enclosure that sends the letter is the one of Hawaii no California.

Pardon my English I am writing from Puerto Rico.

"Could be your last opportunity" is a standard salesman's trick.

A Dave Berg cartoon in Mad magazine showed a shop with a banner that said "Going Out of Business Sale." The dialogue:

"First, we'll need more flags and a bigger sign. Then we'll order in some cake and wine."
"What's the big deal? Why the celebration? Lots of shops go out of business these days."
"Oh, but this is also an anniversary."
    "Of what?"
(Big grin.) "This is the fifth year of our 'Going Out of Business Sale'!"

Hi Police: I did exactly the same thing that you did and dropped the idea of PWU for the same reason. I also got the same letter and wondered the same thing. My guess--and it's only a guess--is that this is just a lure to get you to sign up and send money.

There is a disreputable school in the religious sphere which I also investigated and rejected. That school sent me many letters and e-mails with "this is your last chance" phrases in them. I think this is an appeal to shopper's panic--if I don't buy this item right now, while it's on sale, it will cost me much more later, or I won't ever ever be able to get it.

Even some regionally accredited schools do the follow up angle. I still get e-mail and regualr mail form Walden and Stevens Insitute because I asked them for some information over two years ago.

    They never forget you Police.

I looked into SCUPS about a year or two ago. I turned them down when I learned they weren't accredited. I recently received a last chance mailer from them. They are looking into DETC accreditation now and the theme was get in now, last chance. I guess they are going to raise their tuition.

While I have no interest in them, I am sure that marketing ploy is effective and will bring in students.

The fact remains that PWU Hawaii is not acredited and if you are in law enforcement, the credits or degree will be of very little to no value to your future.

There are many good RA or DETC programs to choose from.

    Mike :)
