Are there any assessment exams that are specific to majors? I notice that many of the exams are for humanities, and social sciences. I do not see many exams in computer science, _____ technology, or business areas. Any reason why?
There are easily enough exams available for a Business degree with a few concentrations. There are not enough for a major in computers or ____ Technology. I suppose you would have to bring your MSCE, BASIC, C, etc. to the degree on your own. I do think it would be possible to porfolio these areas though.
Excelsior accepts certifications like MCSE for credit. It also accepts the GRE subject exam in Computer Science. And there are universities that allow you to challenge for credit almost every course they offer, by taking the final exam. So why is this an issue? Why are you discouraged?
I was just not wanting to have to look all over the place for exams. I am also not crazy about adding more transcripts to the degree equation. I know many people have moved on with their degrees from these schools, but when you have transcripts from 5 to 6 schools that can't look real good.
I would think an exam from a "name" school would look better on a transcript than a generic exam like CLEP or DANTES. I have no data to back this up, though.
Once you receive your degree you don't have to worry about multiple transcripts anyway. Unless of course you need them to apply to a graduate program. I don't think it would matter anyway. Just my .2
