    1. Are there any private US regionally accredited schools for sale?

    2. If so, does it maintain Regional accreditation after exchange of ownership?

    3. Do all regional accreditation boards permit their member schools to offer distant learning programs and degrees?

    1. They do change hands a few times a year. Often not advertised, but 'inside' deals. Often, real estate is included, which makes the deals less desirable for people who have distance learning in mind. For instance, when U.S. International was on the market, it was something in the vicinity of $5 million for the school and $50 million for the campus.

    2. Typically accreditation reverts to "Provisional" while the accreditor looks into the deal.

    3. In theory, yes, but new programs (such as Touro's adding an on-line doctorate) require special approval.

    4. Bear in mind that non-profits can be bought as well, such as Apollo's purchase of the not-for-profit College for Financial Planning (presumably by buying assets, not the actual corporation).
