If you transfer courses to Excelsior do they accept the course grade and calculate that into your GPA?

When you take an ECE exam does the score go toward your GPA?

If you take other exams such as TECEP, COSC, DANTES, and CLEP do those scores count as well?

Same questions as above for TESC, and COSC? I have information coming from each, but I would like to know a little about each from some of you with any other valuable info. I could get.

    Regards,

    Scott

I don't know about TESC or COSC, but Excelsior does factor in transfer grades for the GPA. There are some CLEP and some DSST's that have letter grades and are factored into GPA; I do not know about the Excelsior exams.

    Hope this helps,
    Bill

  4. For TESC, yes and no. Tranferred courses (of "D" or better) are transcribed, with grades, as trasfer courses. The letter grade that Excelsior reports on its score report for the ECEs is transcribed to your TESC transcript. I believe that all "graded" entries are calculated in your TESC institutional GPA, but-- and this is the "no" of "yes and no"-- there's no GPA actually recorded on your TESC transcript.

None of the graduate schools I applied to were put off by this and, as nearly as I can tell, counted the ECE "grades" when they manually calculated my overall (and "last 30 / last 60") GPA for admissions.

I believe TESC will only give you a letter grade for TESC, COSC, and ECE exams. CLEP and DANTES will be listed as "credit" without a letter grade. This might be a problem if you are achieving most of your credits through CLEP and DANTES examinations.

COSC keeps the scores needed for letter grades (CLEP and DANTES) a secret. However, Excelsior has them listed on their website.

    Thanks Guys,

So TESC list your grades, but they do not calculate them. I have been looking around to see how well these are accepted just to see if I want to pursue this route. I may also look at Ohio U. I have about 88 RA hours to transfer, and I think I could test through a lot of the rest. I just want to know if it is worth it.

  7. TESC lists the grades, calculates a GPA, and requires a minimum GPA to graduate.. but they don't post the GPA on your transcript. For the life of me, I don't know why not. But then, I've seen stranger things, to include "narrative grading" at UC-Santa Cruz.
