Has anyone seen the UMUC television advertisement ? If so, I'm interested in your opinions. And yes, I'm aware of the fact that this spot may have been in rotation for some time in other markets, but is brand spanking new in the Louisiana market. And if I'm not mistaken, the channel I saw the spot on was a "cable" channel (A&E, CNN, etc. ???).

I saw it for the first time last night, right after I read your post. It was on the E (Entertainment) channel. I thought it looked professional and I am glad to see more advertisements from schools besides just UoP.

    I Agree

The UMUC spot was certainly a pleasant surprise. In this market, UoP is the only DL operation that does tv spots. I've heard nothing but good things about UMUC. Was seriously considering the dual degree MBA/MS option, but never got a response from admisssions regarding AACSB accreditation. Of course, the members of this forum have done a great job of explaining the difference between the various universities in the UM system. I just wanted an official reponse from a UMUC rep. UMUC is not listed on the www.aacsb.com site but UM is. So far no response from UMUC.

    AACSB

UMUC is not AACSB accredited. Here are the accredited business schools in Maryland:

University of Baltimore (USA - Maryland)
Loyola College in Maryland (USA - Maryland)
University of Maryland (USA - Maryland)
Morgan State University (USA - Maryland)
    Salisbury University (USA - Maryland)
    Towson University (USA - Maryland)

    Re: AACSB

I appreciate the information, but I'd already researched the AACSB status of UMUC--among others-- via the AACSB website, the UMUC home page, and of course degreeinfo.com. I was interested in what the UMUC rep that emailed me originally might have to say about the accreditation of the UMUC MBA program. Again, no response.

My present university, the University of Louisiana at Lafayette (ULL), has an AACSB accredited evening program, but I was hoping to spend more time with my two boys while pursuing my MBA.

I've reviewed info packets from at least forty-six universities. So far, thirty-eight programs have been removed from consideration. ULL classes would meet once a week, and the tuition for three classes per semester for graduate-level courses is just over $1000; tuition for one class per semester is about $350. So that remains an option.

Make no mistake about it, since I joined the ranks of degreeinfo.com junkies I have read the old posts regarding the distinction between UMUC's MBA and the Robert H. Smith School of Business - University of Maryland program.. They were informative and spirited debates.

    Again, thanks for the info.

    AACSB

I believe UMUC will not seek AACSB accredidation based on its organizational structure, ratio of part time to full time professors and the lack of a large traditional FT daytime program.

They have quality faculty: many of their professors teach at other USMD schools, many of which ARE AACSB accredited: the biggest challenge is the organizational one.

Just saw the commercial: nice looking.

UMUC is now trying to hire FT instructors; the case I'm aware of is offered 40K p.a. for 3 courses per semester.

I looked at UMUC as a BA completion option, but found the out- of -state tuition costs excessive. I know that UMUC has a great reputation on this forum, but when I noticed that one of their professors has a PhD from K-W it kind of tarnished the image for me.
