I sat the Analyzing and Interpreting Lit. examination last week cold and scored a 68 with time to spare. I thought the exam to be very easy. How do the American and English Lit. exams compare?

I have seen the college board website for a breakdown of what to expect, but I want information from those of you who have taken these exams before. How much of the exam, if any, is similar to the Analyzing and Interpreting Lit. exam?

    Thank you,
    Chris

I would be interested to know how hard American Lit is myself. I took Analyzing and Intrepeting Literature and passed (it was a little low.. 58 or 59 I forgot). I studied that morning for it (brushed up on lit. terms).

As far as comparing this exam to the American and English Literature CLEPs? I am sure its a bit harder (you probably need to actually know certain works by certain authors). Analyzing and Int. Lit. just requires reading skills (and a descent literature related vocabulary).

Considering my Comp II class I just took was taught from an American literature book, I was thinking of CLEPing out of American Literature to see if I can pass it. I should do it soon or I will forgot all the stuff I read!

    Best Regards,
    Bill

I'm an idiot; I thought you asked to compare Analyzing and Int Lit w/ American. I honestly don't know which one would be easier/harder, American or English. I do know that English civilization is older than American civilization (documented atleast) and English literature probably goes back earlier than American literature (so may there is more stuff to study in the English Lit exam?).

    Bill,

I believe your first observation was correct. I was/am asking for comparisons of the Amer. and Eng. literature exams to the Analyzing and Interpreting Lit. exam.

I am all for 12 easy credits, but I do not have much money to spend for something I may not pass. With limited funds, I like to bet on sure wins. At 6 credits a pop those lit exams are very alluring!

If I can pass one of these exams, I will not need to take that atrocious looking Humanities CLEP exam (General).

    Hi CMT,

I took the A&I Lit test and believe it is probably the easiest CLEP test, at least for those who are avid readers with a basic knowledge of literary terminology. I myself have more than a little fear of the Amer. and Eng. Lit tests. I wouldn't know where to begin to prepare for them. So I decided on another test I don't look forward to, the Hum. gen. test. Wish me luck. :)

I am preparing for the Am/Lit exam. Can't find REA, Barron's, or Princeton Review books. I purchased the www.collegeboard.com/clep study guide for $6 and am now reading a lot of books and Cliff Notes. Any better ideas are welcome!

    Check this out:

    http://home.att.net/~alexadeparis/index.html

One of the degreeinfo members (Alexadeparis) made this website. English literature is on there and if you click on the link she has outlines for both English and American literature.

Thanks Bill. That is a valuable link that summarizes enough material to get to the heart of the topic. I have been studying a lot for this CLEP exam because I am a very technical person and have avoided literary topics as much as possible.
