Due to apparent harvesting of email addresses by spammers and others, we have curtailed general access to members email addresses. Because the building of community should support and encourage individual interactions in addition to those that occur on the degreeinfo forums, we hope and expect that this will be a temporary action. We will be looking to implement a means of communication that will allow email forwarding, but will prevent the harvesting of email addresses by spammers and other abusers. In the meantime, if you have an urgent need to contact a degreeinfo poster, you may email "forum at degreeinfo dot com" and we will either forward your message or provide you with the requested email address. Keep in mind that this is a manual process, and it may take some time to respond to your request, but we will handle such requests as quickly as possible. Thanks for your understanding. As much as I hate spammers and trolls, I'm not sure I like this idea. After all, there *is* a choice in the profile section to keep your e-mail private if you want, and I would hope that anyone wanting to stay private would take advantage of that. Perhaps a reminder of that feature rather than a blanket ban on public e-mail addresses would be better, at least as a first step. I personally don't care if my e-mail is visible, because I've found that the good (people who want to contact me directly can do so) outweighs the bad (having to press the delete key a few times a day). I completely agree, which is why this move is expected to be temporary. We're looking for a remailer application that will automatically forward messages without revealing the address. This will prevent spammer harvesting. In the meantime, anyone that wishes to contact another poster can either post a message here in the forum, or email forum at degreeinfo dot com and the email will be supplied.
Until the temporary restriction is lifted, a poster who anticipates private replies could include the e-mail address in the body of the message, such as ashton9 at attglobal dot net. ------------------ Gerry Ashton
