Upper Iowa University has a B.S. in Accounting that is quite reasonable ~$230 or $180 per credit depending on method used. They also accept clep and dantes credit which could bring the price down substantially.

this site is his site. :)
And a great source of information it is.

I haven't bothered to check the numbers but the odds are that the following schools will be cheaper than the previously listed schools.
    Central Queensland U
    Charles Sturt U
    Edith Cowan U
    Monash U
    U of Pretoria
    UNISA (Africa)
    UNISA (Australia)
    U of Southern Queensland
I know you asked for "RA" and none of these are RA. Perhaps you were only hoping to avoid substandard schools by specifying "RA." None of the above are known as being substandard. They are simply non-US.

What's wrong with TESC and Excelsior? They get the job done, are both RA, and are affordable.

A person with an accounting degree from Australia is allowed to exercise in the US???

Sure anyone can exercise in the US. Although many of us don't exercise and sit in front of the computer all day. This is why there are so many overweight people in the US. (sorry I couldn't resist)

In the US accounting is done both by licensed and non licensed persons. Licensed accountants, called Certified Public Accountants in the US, (Chartered accountants almost everywhere else) may preform audits of publically traded companies. Complex accounting is generally done by Certified Public Accountants. Less intensive tasks such as routine book keeping are done by accountants with degrees but no CPA award.

Each state in the US sets the requirements for CPA licensure, there is no nationwide standard although most states have similar requirements.

My current university, Florida State University, makes the Florida requirements available at this web page :
    http://www.cob.fsu.edu/acc/cpa_req.asp

A cursory review of the relevent Florida regulations shows that an accredited Bachelor's degree in Accounting and thirty additional credit hours in accounting or accounting related subjects. However my interpretation of Florida law may be flawed because I am ineligible to sit the Florida Bar examination as I read law at Trinity College Dublin. Although I could take the examination in New York. How ironic, (frankly I probably wouldn't pass it but I could take it).

Don't get me wrong here (TESC, Excelsior, and COSC are great); but, they are not quite as convenient as a "regular" online program (all the courses from an online program come from the same school). Looking for a course, sending the school which offers the course transcripts to take the course, sending transcripts BACK to Excelsior/TESC/COSC when your finished w/ the course, and repeat this cycle x amount of times until you meet the requirements. Sure you can CLEP your way to a degree as well; however, there are some people that do better in directed courses of study. Some people like getting their hand held through a degree program.

What is also inconvenient is transferring an associate's degree from Excelsior to another school. Because you can not simply give them your Excelsior/TESC/COSC transcript, you have to give them transcripts from the 300 million different schools you went to to get a degree from Excelsior/TESC/COSC (this starts getting expensive).

    Best Regards,
    Bill

FYI - In addition to the CPA designation, there are other certifications for accountants: CMA, CFM, CBM and CIA.

I am of the impression that those are certifications whereas the CPA is actually a license to practice public accounting just as a medical license is a license to practice medicine.

However, one might want a Certified Internal Auditor who is a CPA. I don't think those are licenses, however I'm not sure what they all are not being a CPA.

Enlighten us if you would, what are those certifications.

    Thanks

    These are certifications, not licenses:

CMA = Certified Management Accountant: www.imanet.org

CFM = Certified in Financial Management: www.imanet.org

CBM = Certified Business Manager: www.cbmexam.com

CIA = Certified Internal Auditor: www. theiia.org

According to the Schedule of Classes Fall 2003 I received today, tuition has been increased to "$880 per four-credit hour course." :(

    Cheers,
