I am considering after I finish up over at Excelsior the end of this year to obtain a "Master Of Education degree"......... I have looked into UOP, and found it to be interesting...though, I came across AIU (American InterContential University online). They offer a Master Of Education degree....and I am currently in the process of reviewing their materials and such. Though, I was wondering if anyone here knows more about AIU, that can give me some pointers about the college? Good, Bad, Decent, etc......? Any advise, suggestions would be helpful. Thnks JAY
Anybody.......have any experience with AIU? Any comments, suggestions..........anything? I would really like some advise on this... cheers! Jay
Nobycane I am enrolled with AIU. Moved my old , well not so old, credits from Strayer. They tossed my computer credits. I guess 1985 classes for systems is a tad outdated Completed by AABA, finishing my BSBA, then move directly into the MBA program. I enjoy the school, some say it is pricey, but I find it in line with many other institutions. Courses for BS level are two at a time for a 5 unit interval. MBA or MEd courses are one at a time, for 5 to 6 units. Depending on the professor, as with any school, you will find yourself working every evening on your projects, discussion boards, and that blasted group crap. Sorry, one thing I hate is group work. Depending on the undependable is more of a definition. AIU is RA through the Southern states. Based in Buckhead, GA. (North Atlanta). I like them, Im pleased, and I would recommend them Dave
During that time no. It was known as Strayer College, Washington DC. I went to the Fredericksburg, Va campus. I did not like Strayer all that well, actually I think it was more regarding the elite minded advisor than the school in general. I cannot comment to the negative regarding Strayer, but I would choose AIU between the two
Thanks. Used to pass through Fredericksburg when in the Army and stationed in Virginia. Nice college town.
Oh boy.......now this is what I am talking about. The big phone conference with their admissions adviser, made it seem like it was more of a sales pitch - than a general info session. I was contemplating between AIU and UOP for my Masters of Education. But if AIU is not RA in the southern states ( in my case Florida) - then I am wasting my time thinking about them. At least with UOP, It is a MaED and I automatically get state certifed as an instructor in AZ. I knew I felt something wasn't right...about the whole accrediation thing...plus, I couldn't find anything on their website!!! It just linked me to my DOE in FL website.... Thanks!!!!!!!! Jay
AIU is SACS accredited AIU is fully accredited by SACS, same board that accredits the likes of Vanderbilt and Duke. I am 3 months shy of completing my Bachelor's with AIU and have been extremely pleased. The level of instruction is fantastic, professors are readily available to help with any need areas. Curriculum is much tougher (for me) than going to the brick and mortar which I attended 2 years of. Hope this helps....but I would certainly recommend AIU.
American Inter-Continental University (AIU) is fully accredited by Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) as a level III (Master's) college. SACS is one of the six recognized regional accrediting agencies (RAs). SACS accredits colleges in South and Southeastern U.S. Florida is in the Southeastern region and therefore the state is within the jurisdiction of SACS. Noby You read my reply wrong, AIU "is" RA! My employer reimbursement will only cover RA schools. Either way you go AIU or UoP. Have fun in the wonderful group session Well Im off now to join a group. Dave
I must have, sorry! I am very cautious nowadays, since I have been on these boards for a couple years now... A lot of great advise, suggestions and information I have received. Still, which to choose...AIU or UoP???? I know I am the only one who can make that choice...but still...for a Masters of Education degree - I cannot decide. On the one hand UoP wants 33 cr hrs which is like 14 classes..and it will take 18 months - then AIU wants 48 hrs which is like 6 classes..and it will take 10 or less... here is the comparison: UOP: Master of Arts in Education Curriculum and Instruction Foundation Courses *COM 516 Professional Communications 1 --- EDD 570 Introduction to Educational Research 2 --- PSYCH 538 Lifespan Development and Learning 3 --- EDD 520 Critical Issues in Education 3 --- Specialization Courses EDD 574 Action Research Outline 1 EDD 570 QNT 575 Measurement, Evaluation, & Ethics in Research 2 --- CUR 558 Foundations of Curriculum and Instruction 3 --- CMP 520 Learning and Technology 3 --- CUR 524 Instructional Design 3 --- EDD 575 Action Research Proposal 1 EDD 574 CMP 540 Integrating Educational Technology in the Classroom 3 -- CUR 562 Standards-Based Curriculum and Instruction 3 --- EDD 573 Applications of Research 2 --- CUR 578 Evaluation of Curriculum 3 --- EDD 576 Action Research Presentation 1 EDD 575 Total Credits 34 AIU: Master of Education Degree (Instructional Tech) PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS EDU600 Introduction to Instructional Technology 6 EDU610 Understanding the Learning Process 6 EDU620 Principles of Instructional Design 6 EDU630 Cognitive Approaches to Learning 6 EDU640 Computer-Mediated Learning Environments 6 EDU660 Curriculum Design and Evaluation 5 EDU670 Educational Research Methods 6 EDU674 Online Learning: Theory and Practice 6 TOTAL M. ED DEGREE REQUIREMENTS 48 I know the average joe would say......the shorter - the better!! But is it?
