I have never heard of ARTS : )

I’ve noticed that there is a growing number of unaccredited or questionable accreditation REFORMED theological schools/seminary. What’s going on?

In the wonderful world of generic evangelicalism, there is a certain type of youngish cleric, usually grown jaded with dispensationalism, who thinks Calvinism has snob value. Kinda nudist high-church-ism: no millinery needed. Just a slightly tweaked Calvinism (a little supra, a little CGM, a little booze, a little wowserism, a little repristination of some 17th century bore*, take your pick, but by all means get a guru and a hip-pocket seminary with some arcane bone to pick with all the established Calvinist seminaries). Arcana always appeals. Thus the market.



*After all, Calvin is so, ugh, popular. Jodocus Throcklethwaite, who spent the entire Westminster Assembly of Divines bound, gagged, and stuck headfirst in a disused ale-barrel by his prudent colleagues who were determined to get something done, is the fellow you simply must read, since he's been out of print and circulating only in mimeographed form since the mid-1730's. Owen, Hodge, Berkhof, Bavinck--mere tyros by comparison.
