    Greetings fellow lovers of academia,

Just a simple question: Does anyone know if the University of Waikato in New Zealand, or the University of Sydney in Australia are appropriately accredited schools by their respective governing bodies AND recognized as such in the U.S.?

    Thanks.

The University of Sydney is one of the leading universities in Australia. It has an international reputation. The other university is an accredited university in New Zealand and would be of a similar style and standard to the University of Sydney no doubt.

Universities in these countries are mainly state derived institutions. There are very few private universities unlike the states. They operate in a similar manner to UK universities and with their traditions. There aren't any private accrediting bodies and all accreditation is done by the state. There are very stringent standards.

Their acceptability in the United States in respect of legality would not be a problem. As to whether employers in the US know about them or accept their degrees I am unable to comment. The rest of the world, particularly the Commonwealth, would rank them fairly highly.

I hope this has been some help.

Thank you very much for your input. I am amazed at the speed and depth of the answer you offered. Moreover, being a citizen of one of the school's locations, really is a bonus for me. I really appreciate the information.

As a U.S. citizen, it is sometimes difficult for me to know for sure what schools are seen as acceptable here, when they originate from other countries.

    Again, thank you.

I guess I was online when you posted. Many years ago I had difficulties in dealing with a university here when I was doing a distance learning course. They tolerated distance learning students rather than wanted them.

I left them and enrolled with the then University of the State of New York who could not have been more helpful. The position of the Australian Dollar changed and the USA became a very expensive exercise. I can recall at the time I had difficulty getting my head around the system in the US and even the spelling at times. Accordingly, after having been there ,I don't mind helping others coming the other way .

I have been telling university people here that they have a market in the US but don't seem to realise it. I think they are gradually changing. Some are quicker than others perhaps.
If you require any assistance just let me know and I will do some work on the ground for you if I can.
