    Hi Everyone!

I am new to this forum, and I have a question in regards to RA DL Doctorate programs that are US based. I am looking for one that is inexpensive and with no residency. I checked out UOP and AIU an they were way out of my price range. Any recomendations?

    Thanks,

    Dr. Gina

Northcentral University is among the least expensive (or was) with no residency requirements.

Touro's Health Sciences is relatively affordable with no residency.

  4. I think NSU (www.niva.edu) wants you on-campus one week every six months - about as good as you are going to get. :)

Don't forget about the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. They have a total online Ph.D. or Ed.D. They strongly encourage an on campus experience but as of now, it is not required. It is pretty cost effective at around $15,000 for the entire program. They do require the GRE.

    PhD costs

I know most can't afford to quit their job to attend full time and their are definately opportunity costs associated with it, but....

The cheapest PhD program in the U.S. is attending full time. Tuition is waived and a stipend is generally given to the student worth $10k-14k.

What do you want to do with the degree, that will depend on where to go.

    A note of thanks

I am actually ldoing research for a friend of mine who is ooking to complete a PHD or PsyD in psychology....these universities look good, and you guys have been really helpful.

I do want to share how I ended up finding all about this message board. My friend and collegue at work decided to go back to school for our PHD this past fall. Luckly, there is a program in our area that will allow you yto complete your degree part time, but at a much slower pace. Due to family and time issues, my friend (who has over 22 years of experience in the field) is unable to continue with the program, and was saddened by it. While surfing the web, I came across an advertisement for "Get your college degree with life experience". My friend and I looked into it, and he thought that this was the answer to his dreams, and applied. He was approved and submitted in his "fee" for his diploma for over $500. and became a PsyD. Once he recieved his diploma, however, I became concerned and did some research. I learned about accredited vs. non accredited, John Bear, this message board and Degree Mills - which is obviously where my friend got his degree from (Suffield University). The hardest part was breaking the news to him, because he really believed he got a PsyD - and feeling like a couple of fools at the same time. However, research has enspired him, as well as myself to research and hopefully persue a PhD or PsyD online.

Now that I've shared my story.....

Hi Dr Gina: In what field is your doctorate? What is motivating you to pursue a second (surely an impressive thing)?

It appears to be better, but it is not. Here is the comparison:

    NCU-81 Credits x 375 = $30,375

    TUI- 44 Credits x 500 = $22,000
    8 sessions x 1000= $8,000 (2 years in dissertation phase)
    Total cost= $30,000

Another thing to consider is that you can be a graduate assistant. Based on the above model, you would have the opportunity to do this for 13 sessions. As a GA, $1500 is waived from tuition for every class you teach.

    This means:

If you teach one per session, $19,500 is waived-leaving the total cost for the program at $10,500

If you teach two per session, $39,000 is waived-leaving the total cost at $0. Financial aid can help fund your dissertation

It is tough to maintain the schedule, but it is a doctoral program. It seems to me that of all the DL schools, TUI most mirrors the best practices of B&M schools.

NCU has very minimal interaction between faculty and students and between students (I was not even sent a welcome e-mail from the MIS faculty after the course was started and i had no idea how to proceed). I talked to the academic chair and that did not help... he made me to change the course !. But i want to do my MBA with MIS concentration and this faculy teaches most of the MIS subjects. I also heard that all the NCU courses are being revisited now to bring them up to the "time". The course i had registered had a 2 ~3 yr old edition text book and i just had to answer end-of chapter 2~3 review questions and complete the whole course. There is no case-study or a group project.

Has NCA lowered their standards ?
