I thought many of you may be interested in o some new features that searchers might find interesting. AltaVista now offers an "education search" which allows you to search over 20 million pages' worth of college and university sites. Basically this is just a search hardcoded to restrict searches to the .edu domain... helpful if you are trying to find .edu specific information. <A href="http://tools.altavista.com/s?spage=av/SEdu.htm&only=y">
And let us remember that the "edu" suffix is no guarantee of a school having any sort of recognition or usefulness (e.g., City University Los Angeles, Canyon College, American University of Hawaii, and scores of other dreadful places).
And the lack of a .edu suffix does not mean that an entity is not a legitimate school -- several community colleges have registered .org or .net domain names in order to have a shorter name -- rather than the standard <school-name>.CC.<state-code>.US ------------------ Kristin Evenson Hirst DistanceLearn.About.com [email protected]
