YES William Howard Taft University Universidad FLET NO St. John's University* POSTPONED YorktownUniversity DEFERRED SIX MONTHS Southwest University YET TO BE HEARD FROM Central State University IMPAC University Lansbridge University Rescue College _________ * According to Fox News, Dallas, which is doing a story on a local politician with a St. John's Ph.D. He says schools turned down have until June 23 at 5 pm to appeal their rejection, and after that, it is official.
Both Southwest and St. John's University have until June 30,2003 to get USDOE recognized accreditation. If they fail, I believe they will lose their Louisiana operating licenses. Louisiana Board of Regents Minutes 6/27/02
Hard Lessons about Unaccredited Schools This should be interesting. I guess I really will never be able to mention that Southwest MBA I completed years ago. Of course, it hasn't done me too much good -- but I was kind of hoping they would secure accreditation.
Correction about Southwest University By the way, the minutes discussing Southwest's licenses is actually those of the September 25, 2002 Board of Regents meeting. You may click here to read the minutes. In short, regents voted to extend Southwest's licenses to operate from October 1, 2002 to June 30, 2003. That's ten days from today. I don't know how things work procedurally in Louisiana. Perhaps Southwest will ask for an extension of the licenses.
I think Southwest has a much greater chance of getting the accreditation than St.John's University. Southwest U was deferred 6 months so that may be some hope. St. John's had professors from unaccredited institutions. Anything is possible, but I wasn't impressed.
And don't forget the mean looking guard dog St. John's had chained outside the house, ummmmm, I mean school.
According to Fox News, Dallas, the Lousiana Board of Regents will be meeting in a few days, and are likely to extend Southwest's deadline by six months, to give them time to complete the DETC process. Note: Southwest owner Reg Sheldrick has been trying to sell the university, so he can retire. I wouldn't be surprised to learn that St. John's is consulting the real estate ads in Picayune, Mississippi, or comparable centers of higher education in states with minimal regulation.
R.A.M.: "And don't forget the mean looking guard dog St. John's had chained outside the house, ummmmm, I mean school. ----------------------------------------- Fascinating to watch an urban (or, I guess, rural) legend develop. Truth: The hand-lettered sign on the fence of the double-wide across the lane from St. John's said "Bad Dog" (but none was in evidence).
Are you sure, John? By the time the story reached North Carolina the "Bad Dog" had been sold by the double-wide owners to the president of St. Johns University, who was using the animal as a guard dog. I guess I need to confirm these stories before posting, huh?
Russell you truly are ignorant of residential nomenclature. I remember mentioning to someone about herr trailer. She had no idea what I was talking about. Finally she said "You mean our mobile home?" My wife met a person one day and asked if they were the people who lived in the double-wide trailer on the hill. The reply was that it was not a double-wide trailer, it was a modular home. My wife's later response was "if it comes on a truck, it walks like a duck"
Sorry, Dennis. My use of nomenclature came from John Bear--who used the compound word "double-wide." I guess he is ignorant too.
Sole Ownership? Is Reg Sheldrick the sole owner of Southwest? Who is Grayce Lee and what is her role? Anyone knows?
