I just enrolled at ACCS and no one said anything about them losing their accreditation or having difficulty. I am considering postponing if not completely withdrawing from the coursework.

I have been thinking about changing from the amplified D.Min to the D.Min. in Christian Counseling. I am curious as to the states that will accept ACCS degrees as qualifiers to sit for licensing. I live in Indiana and am near Lousiville, KY. If the the Christian Counseling program is not acceptable I will probably look for a DL Counseling program, preferably MFT.

Does anyone know of a RA DL, MFT program? Also, any info on licensing with the ACCS degree in Christian Counseling.

    Thanks.

They should have clearly stated that their accreditation was being denied. That is just plain unethical of them. I would ask for a refund of any funds that you have given them and wait to see what happens in the next few months between ACCS and TRACS.

I am currently enrolled in the doctoral Christian counseling program. I have found the program to be excellent in terms of flexibility. However, I too am alarmed by the TRACS accreditation issue. I personally do not know how the TRACS issue should be handled in terms of notifying potential enrollees? I am quite certain that a ACCS doctoral counseling degree will qualify for professional license -- counseling, both LPC and pastoral counselor -- in the State of Tennessee.

This might be crazy talk, but I wonder: Even if ACCS loses its appeal (in one sense of the word, anyway), isn't there a good chance that it might regain TRACS accreditation or get DETC accreditation later?

    DWCox,

What is the bottomline regarding the school's issue with TRAC?

    Thanks,

    Shawn,

I believe most states require that the degree be RA. Some states such as Tennessee do accept Nationally Accredited degrees. You will need to check with your state. ACCS says up front that it is not meant to qualify for licensure. You may be able to structure it that way.

My feeling at this point is that ACCS will pull out of this problem although there is no guarentee. A lot has to do with the last administration & not so much academics as other things (did not keep the endowment up with growth, board issues, etc). If you are in no hurry you could wait to see the outcome.

Now, as to other programs. If you want doctorate: Argosy University, Liberty U both have doctorates with residency requiremnts that appear to qualify for licensure. Southern Christian University has a 60 credit hour DMin in Marriage and Family Counseling (I believe designed for LMFT/LPC licensure). They also require some residency. Liberty University also has a MA that meets most states requirements (also requires a couple of classes be taken during summer mini sessions.

    Good luck.

Thanks to all of you for you suggestions. I'm definitely going to hold off on the D.Min program at ACCS. In fact, in rethinking my future goals I am convinced that pursuing a M.A. in M.F.T. would be better suited to my career goals followed by a Ph.D.

I am more than a little unhappy that ACCS didn't voluntarily disclose it's difficulties with accreditation and now at this point it is becoming difficult to enter an M.F.T. program.

I'm considering two M.F.T. programs at present one is on campus at Lousiville Presbyterian Theological Seminary and the second is a short residency program at Johnson Bible College.

Does any one know of a RA Master's Program in Marriage and Family Therapy with DL.

    Thanks.

    Pirate,
I completed my M.A. in New Testament through Johnson Bible College. While not the same program you are considering, I can assure you that they are top notch and affordable to boot.
