    Hi

I am about to go to Great Harbour Cay (Bahamas) for about three to five month. I would hate to give up on working on my bachelor degree. Does anyone know if you can take TECEP or Excelsior exams on an island such as this one? There is no university or library on the island.

    Thanks

Hi, If the US has any type of military situation in the Bahamas the education office can arrange a proctor. I think the Coast Guard has a base there but am not positive. Are you sure there is no library there? Hille

Shouldn't there be someone who qualifies as a TECEP proctor?

Excelsior exams are all on computer through some testing centre. I assume you are out of luck there.

You could always use your time in the Bahamas to study for some extra exams and then take the exams when you return.

    My favorite duty station

I was truly blessed to be able to spend a year on Andros Island, Bahamas. At the time, '93-'94 we only had a handful of military personnel on station. We had some educational opportunities. PACE (Program for Afloat College Education) courses were made available and I even found the time to complete one. We had a sharp Petty Officer First Class, with a bachelors degree, go through the wickets of becoming a test control officer, so we were able to take DSST (maybe Regents College and CLEP also) exams. At the time off-duty education was not one of my priorities.

Unfortunately, I am nearly positive you would not be allowed on that base unless you were involved in offical business.

I've had some really good duty stations, but life on Andros was extraordinarily good.

    Hi Charles

So you where in Adros Town? I am sure with navy ( submarine) base there. It is nice to know someone has been in the same situation. Well I think I will just try it before going. It is a lot easier in the states.
Anyway thanks for trying to help.

    Carlos,

That's right. I was at AUTEC. We had about 14 Navy personnel permanently stationed there. When a Sailor reported or detached the whole command (all 14 of us and our families) would also go to the airport to greet our newship mate or to say farewell.

By the way, you are right. They will not allow you near the base, if you are not on o

    Hi Charles

By the way, you are right. They will not allow you near the base, if you are not on official business. I look into that already, and came up empty handed. I worked in Andros Town for about a month several years ago. How did you like the bone fishing? How about the insects? Did you get to fly on the Autec F-27?

How did you like the bone fishing?

The fishing, snorkeling, and diving were great.

    How about the insects?

I don't remember being too bothered by insects.

Did you get to fly on the Autec F-27?

Yes, many times back and forth to West Palm Beach, where I kept a car. And a few times to Nassau to get my fill of Kalik and throw my money away at the roulette wheel.
