The DETC Accrediting Commission had its big meeting this past weekend, apparently for the final vote on whether to accredit the following institutions. DETC policy is to announce only the successful applicants. They leave it up to the unsuccessful ones, whether to say anything or not.

These nine are of relevance to this forum. I hope members will share information here as it becomes available. Nothing on detc.org as of this Monday afternoon.

    Central State University, Riverside, CA
    IMPAC University, Punta Gorda, FL
    Lansbridge University, New Brunswick, Canada
    Rescue College, Kansas City, MO
    Southwest University, Kenner, LA
    St. John's University, Springfield, LA
    Universidad FLET, Miami, FL
William Taft University, Santa Ana, CA
    YorktownUniversity, Hampton, VA

I always thought "Lansbridge University, New Brunswick, Canada" is regionally accredited or RA equivalent.

Isn't this the university with its very own watch dog?

    Does anyone know?

Does anyone know about the current status of CCU and their application to the DETC? Have they formally submitted their application?

I was going to ask about the above institution since I went to their website and notice the drop their DBA, and expanded the Faculty, so my suspicious were correct they did apply for the DECT.

    Good Info!

I'm surprised by the implication that DETC is evaluating institutions not of relevance to this forum. Doesn't the "DE" in "DETC" stand for "Distance Education"? Has DETC expanded its functions beyond what its name implies?

Hi - my guess is that John meant of relevance as it relates to degree granting institutions. DETC still only does distance and combination distance and residence so long as the distance part is greater than 50% of the overall program. However, DETC also accredits non-degree granting institutions, including high schools, vocational schools and other post-secondary programs such as those offered by the military which are not often discussed in this forum.

Regarding the list posted by John, I can't speak to all of them, but I do know that YorktownUniversity, Hampton, VA did not elect to go through the accreditation process in time for the most recent commission vote so one should not assume that the other schools did either - should no announcement be forthcoming about their status.

Lansbridge could be said to be equivalent to regionally accredited. I think DETC accreditation should be viewed as a plus.

    Re St. John's

Russell: Isn't this the university with its very own watch dog?

John: Not quite. The "Bad Dog" sign was on the property across the street (the narrow lane called "University Circle") from the umUniversity.
