    Hi Guys

I just finished my AS in Professional Aviation at Everglades College. I am trying to figure out the lowest level math classes that satisfies the Bachelor of Science in Applied Science and Technology program at TESC. I know that it is going to take a lot of work, if I need to take calculus. Can someone confirm for me, that I must take calculus to get a Bachelor of Science in Applied Science from tesc.

    Thanks
    Carlos

Unless you are doing an electronics or engineering technology concentration, the most you will need is 6 semester hours in "precalculus". To me, that would be:

    college algebra and trigonometry

Not calculus. Aviation maintenance technology and flight technology only require that (6 credits in precalc) according to their curriculum guide. Of course, check with the advisor first, but it doesnt seem you need calculus.

Now, if you feel you should take calculus; but, think you wont do too well in it, try an "applied" calculus. It lacks the (from what I understand) the trigonometric functions that a regular calculus course teachs and applies basic calculus to real world situations in business, social sciences, or life sciences. Usualy the prequisite for these type of calculus classes are college algebra only (you don't need trig).

    Hope this helps,
    Bill

    Carlos,

I understand Everglades College has some sort of articulation agreement with Florida schools (or is part of the florida school system... or something close to this). However, is TESC going to accept your credit from Everglades College, considering it is not RA?

    Best Regards,
    Bill

    Carlos,

Here is an applied calculus that may strike an interest:

    College Mathematics in Aviation II

They also have a precalculus (I think it has college algebra AND trig) level course (College Math in Aviation I).

Seems like this could be your math requirement AND it may hold your interest considering it is in aviation

    Hope this helps,
    Bill

I am going to check on that. Everglades College is a member of the Florida course numbering system, so in here I do not have a problem. Going with TESC I would have to use porfolio assestment to get credit, however this is OK with me. College algebra sounds good to me. Thanks
