    Hi folks,
I'm looking for a MA or MLA in History that is RA. Price is somewhat important, but not a deciding factor unless it carrys a price tag like Duke's MBA program! Anyone have a short list out there?
    Thanks,
    Gavin
PS Degree info has made some fanstastic changes!

Off the top of my head:

    CSU Dominguez Hills
MA in Humanities, with a concentration in history.

    University of London
    MA in United States Studies

    University of Wales-Lampeter
    MA in Historical Studies
(You may also be able to do a research MPhil by distance, but that would have to be negotiated)

If you live in the Boston area, and can do some residency, Harvard offers a ALM in History through its extention program.

Those are just the ones I've run across. Check Bears' Guide, the resources on this site, and the BA in 4 Weeks Site for other options.

Hi Buckwheat! You might want to check out Syracuse. They have a MA in Social Sciences where you can select history as a core. It's a program I've been looking at myself. Good luck! :D

Sam Houston State University, M.A. History, with an emphasis in military history.

A DETC program is American Military University's M.A. in Military History/Civil War Studies. I include it because it might be particularly strong in that area.

    U. Leicester, M.A. in Archaeology and Heritage.

This one emphasizes things like local history and historic preservation. They also have a "research" Ph.D. in Archaeology and Ancient History that they say is doable by DL.

I understand that Britons consider Leicester rather strong in archaeology. It has turned in a pretty good showing in the recent research assessments.

Lest we forget our South African options, I would like to point out that the University of South Africa offers three different Masters degree options in History,
    1) Ancient History (my personal favorite)
    2) Ancient Near Eastern Culture
    3) History
These may be taken by research or by coursework. An excellent endeavor by any means. Good luck,
    Jack
(As an afterthought I would like to add that because a Masters degree in History is a particularly useless qualification (which I wholeheartedly applaude) the South African option might be considered best as it clearly costs the least. Now, if you're considering a PhD . . .)

    Buckwheat,
You might want to consider Fort Hays State University's MLS program w. a concentration in History.

The entire program has a cost of approx. $5300.00 ($133.50/hr) and consists of 11 on-line courses.
