I don't really know what to make of this school. Almeda College and University is not RA or even DETC accredited. They claim that their accreditation comes from the Association for Online Academic Excellence. Additionally, the "school" presents itself as a company instead of an institution of higher learning...

"Almeda College & University is a young exciting company backed by years of experience, formed in 1997, initially as a partnership which progressed quickly into a Limited Company. Each of the Directors has a different skill set, all well suited to the future development of Almeda College & University."

All I have to say is..."proceed with caution."

I think it's pretty clear what to make of it.

Apparently this mi... uh school... may be located in either Idaho or Connecticut:

    Domain Name: ALMEDACOLLEGE.ORG

    Administrative Contact:
Almeda Educational Services (NDDXGVTSAO) [email protected]
    10700 W. Overland Rd
    224
    Boise, ID 83709
    US
    877-829-6419

However, "Alameda Education Services" (listed as the registrant of alamedacollege.org) has contact information in Connecticut:

    Organization:
    Maryann Lozy
    Maryann Lozy
    307 Main Street
    Cromwell, CT 06416
    US
    Phone: 806-6131473
    Email: [email protected]

    Registrar Name....: Register.com
    Registrar Whois...: whois.register.com
    Registrar Homepage: http://www.register.com

    Domain Name: ALMEDAEDU.COM

Created on..............: Tue, Jul 31, 2001
Expires on..............: Thu, Jul 31, 2003
Record last updated on..: Mon, Feb 10, 2003

There were some postings on a.e.d that also seemed to indicate the "school" was in Connecticut. If so, they are not on the list of schools approved to operate in Connecticut:

    http://www.ctdhe.org/cgi-bin/webplus.exe?script=/db2/school.wml&fpublic=ALL

Then again, maybe they are located in New Jersey, or perhaps Florida. The contact information fro almedacollege.com (which is a second address for the same site) lists the same contact - Maryann Lozy, with addresses in NJ and FL:

    Registrant:
    Almeda College (WN-D-93746710)
    6278 North Federal Hwy #268
    Ft. Lauderdale, FL 33308
    US

    Domain Name: ALMEDACOLLEGE.COM

    Administrative Contact, Technical Contact:
    Lozy, Maryann (19004490I) [email protected]
    Almeda College
    148 Fornelius Ave
    Clifton, NJ 07013
    US
    860-613-1473 fax: 973-5551212

By the way, this schools should not be confused with the "College of Alameda," an RA community college in California.

They've also been kind enough to put their traffic reports online. Keep in mind that Alexa uses a ranking system rather than reporting the raw number of hits. I'm sure there's a way to translate it, at least roughly, but I don't know what it is.

    Traffic for almedacollege.org

    Traffic for almedacollege.com

Apparently they changed their promotional efforts from the .org to the .com sometime in April.

There contact information for the Alexa account is currently in Idaho:

    Almeda College
    10400 W. Overland Road #224
    Boise, ID
    33308

    US
    (877) 829-6419
    [email protected]

Although they apparently listed the address in Florida until fairly recently.

In case it isn't totally obvious, Almeda is a joke. It was listed as a diploma mill by an Australian paper... and as the previous post indicates, any school offering a degree for no work... well, need I say more?

Anyone dumb enough to consider Almeda would do much better to simply save your money. Buy some parchment stock and print a phony diploma on your laser printer... it will be no more or less valuable than a degree "earned" at Almeda.

Get your Alameda degree and sign up for a job at the Dept. of Homeland Security. :p

It would be interesting to know what attracted your attention to this particular institution.

Don't let Tom Ridge hear about this or he will insist that his staff enroll in Almeda's programs.

Chip, Unless the info in the Ausie newspaper came from George Brown you can take it 'with a pinch of salt'. Just like the stories in that infamous New York rag!:)
