    Hi All,

First, thanks very much for the wealth of information that I've already gotten off of this site. It has saved me lots & lots of running around.

I'm aiming for a BA in Liberal Arts at TESC.

Here's what I plan on doing.

    * Rough draft of my portfolios before I enroll to save time during enrollment.
    * Enroll, then send in credits from FEMA & a technical school I attended about 9 years ago.
    * Wait to see what they give for credit.
    * Then send in the portfolios.
    * Then when I know what I'm left with, take TCEPs & DANTES
    for the rest.

I imagine I'll get between 30 & 60 credits for FEMA, tech school & portfolio combined. Any input on my approach mentioned above would be very helpful.

Some other things that concern me are:

    1. If I'm doing a portfolio assessment, how do I know where the credit will be applied to in my degree? For instance, the liberal arts have 18 general electives & 33 other electives. Do I tell them specifically which electives area I'd want those credits plugged into? Or, say they were computer courses, could I tell them I want them plugged into the math/science area, instead of the electives? Or would they be telling me this.

    2. One other concern is that I'll have to wait until I do my assessment & send in my transcripts from FEMA & the tech school, in order to get started on my DANTES & TECEPs. I'd like to start on those now, but I'm kinda, "IFFY" about what ones I could take, & I certainly don't want to take any that will be useless or have an overlap occur from some things that were covered in my assessment.

    3. Also, I don't see any info on upper versus lower credit requirements for the Liberal Arts degree at TESC.

Any info that any of you can provide would be tremendously appreciated.

    thanks,

    Mark

    Hi Mark,

Sounds like a pretty good plan. As far as upper vs. lower level credits, I remember seeing literature on TESC's website explaining this but, because I haven't seriously considered them, I can't remember what their policy was exactly. You should be able to find this info with a simple search of their website.

    Good luck,
    Tony

Maybe some of the people here who have more experience with TESC can help you?

    This may help.

Download or view the TESC catalog (.pdf) and look at the CLEP and DANTES courses beginning on page 101. The courses are listed with TESC course numbers.

    Funky version:

Is that the # of answers you need correct to pass, or the percentage?

For example:HIS-252-DE The Civil War and Reconstruction (3) ......................................47

I believe that this test had about 120 questions.

Friendly advice: don't get your hopes high for Tech School credit unless it is a regionally accredited (RA) inst'n... which, it seems, would be a real contradiction. I've been trying to get my two years of tech school RA'd for two year and portfolio assessment is the only viable option that I've found from talking with mariad accrediting inst's and colleges, one of which I used to teach at. On the other hand, if you learn of any "secret" methods for transferring national accredited cred's to RA ones, PLEASE, do let us know!

Don't know. That's been discussed here by those who do know but I don't recall how the different schools evaluate these things.

The possibility of ACE credit is the only secret I'm allowed to reveal. The Grand Members can reveal more but their identity is secret.
