On the University of Glasgow Business School website, there is no specific mention of the lenth of dissertation/work-based project required to achieve the Doctor of Business Administration degree?

Does anyone have information on this?

    Thank you,

    Hi Scott -

I asked Glasgow that question last year and the reply I received was that a 50,000 to 70,000 word dissertation was required for the DBA degree.

Additionally, the only actual trip that was required to Glasgow was for an oral defense of the dissertation.

    Hope that helps.

    Jim:

Thanks for the information. Overall, what was your impression of the program and its reputation? How well do you think it would be received in industry/academia?

    Kindest regards,

    Scott

    Glasgow DBA

It is impossible at this point to make comment on the Glasgow DAB. I don't think anyone has graduated the programme yet! Don't underestimate Glasgow. it is a very prestigious institution and although this new DBA programme is innovatory the authorities will be watching closely to make sure that the Glasgow reputation is not in any way impaired.

The University of Glasgow is a very prestigious school (founded 1451, before America was even discovered and Harvard was no more than someone's surname). I'm sure they want to ensure those undertaking the DBA are well suited for the program.

The Glasgow DBA requires a master's degree for entry. If you don't have one, they recommend pursuing their work-based MSc in Organisational Development first. Even a British PhD usually does not require a master's.

I would love to chat with someone already enrolled in the DBA program. Does anyone know where I could contact some students in this program?

    Kindest regards,

    Don't try...

    Scott

Donlt try to make the Glasgow DBA more than it is. It has to prove itself in the market place and, as I stated in another response, I donlt theink they have any graduates as of now. You also state that to get onto a British PhD you don't need a master's. In essence this is true but, increasingly, you do! Even then that is no statement that the person is capable of doing a PhD! The 'leap' that is needed between doing a master's degree and getting a PhD is huge, unless someone has done a master's purely by research. In my experience a course based master's isn't that much of a start to complete a British PhD. This is why most people have to first register for the MPhil before being granted PhD candidature after 18-24 months. Very few peopkle these days are granted direct entry to the PhD programme.
