    That is correct.

But why do you want to go the portfolio route? If you can claim credit by writing an exam, that will always be faster than putting together a portfolio.

In another thread, you wrote: "I have already earned near 100 credits at college (Computer Science degree)".

If most or all of these 100 credits transfer to Excelsior, your biggest remaining hurdle may be the distribution requirements. You must already have math courses to fulfill the "Natural Sciences/Mathematics" requirement, and your fluency in Spanish will fulfill the "Humanities" requirement. That leaves the "Social Sciences/History" and "Written English Requirement".

Look, this is my situation.... first of all.. my credits were earned in Peru... and they have to independently evaluated by an agency called ECE (if anybody knows hoy "liberal" they are please let me know) I am afraid those guys from ECE dont see with good eyes my country and act just like Athabasca did and my nearly 100 credits turn into 50... (we use the same semester hour system and my school is far to be a diploma mill but who knows... maybe they dont like my country) and they charge nearly $400 thats about 3/4 my salary... the other thing is that I am in Peru and i their exams are not administered here as far as i know.... so i was thinking in a combination of assestment/traditional college courses in order to achieve my goals.... any helpful comments would be very appreciated.. thanks for the help Mark and other ppl in the forum

ECE (Educational Credential Evaluators, Inc.) is not generous. They awarded Rosie 0 credits for her Certificate for Overseas Teachers of English from University of Cambridge Local Examinations Syndicate, which required 15 semester-hours of coursework as well as overseeing her actual work as an ESL teacher.

Contrary to what Bears' Guide suggests, Excelsior allows no appeal of ECE credit recommendations. Charter Oak State College accepts one other evaluator.

The bad news is that portfolio evaluation is not cheap either. The cheapest that I know of is from Sinclair Community College (about $50 per course after you take their portfolio course), but they award lower-level credit only. It's still going to run you in the hundreds, and getting upper-level portfolio credit will cost you even more.

I'm afraid I'm out of ideas here. Anyone else?

Excelsior College does have a list of schools that credits are accepted from without needing an evaluation from ECE. Although there are no schools from Peru on the list, perhaps you could locate an empathetic faculty member who is knowledgable about South American higher education to approve your school's credit for direct transfer.

This is probably a long shot but it wouldn't hurt to try.

Well... i have some savings i may use for the portfolio assestment but what i mean is that i cant just spend my money in something worthless... like ECE so, now i see the Excelsior option far from me...
