In my opinion the best option is to download and read the appropriate Excelsior College Catalog:

    http://www.excelsior.edu/pub_page.htm#cc

and then call an advisor there. I found no surprises once I enrolled at Excelsior beyond the information in the catalog. Basically, the college will allow you to earn credit in whichever way you choose and then transfer it to the College after getting approval from any on duty advisor in your department

Thanks for your answer... i have some questions.. Excelsior allows you to finish the degree with the 120 credits earned elsewhere? do they have portfolio assestment as good asThomas Edison?
i have about 90 credit hrs of credit, a combination of business computer-related and general studies... the thing is that i am in Peru and here i will be able to enroll a local college and take classes and spend less than a RA online course.. that would be a great deal for me... i have written Excelsior but i dont get an answer yet... if there is an excelsior graudate willing to help me id appreciate it a lot.... my email/msn is [email protected]
    Thank you very much!!

I believe they only rarely do portfolio assessments, e.g., when a student wishes to gain credit for Oboe playing whch requires a special assessment.

Normally they recommend you go through COSC or TESC. Cheaper and better regularized or even Ohio University. Earn your credit there, then transfer your credit to Excelsior.

That's correct. You would transfer the portfolio credit to Excelsior from another college.

    That is correct.

But why do you want to go the portfolio route? If you can claim credit by writing an exam, that will always be faster than putting together a portfolio.

In another thread, you wrote: "I have already earned near 100 credits at college (Computer Science degree)".

If most or all of these 100 credits transfer to Excelsior, your biggest remaining hurdle may be the distribution requirements. You must already have math courses to fulfill the "Natural Sciences/Mathematics" requirement, and your fluency in Spanish will fulfill the "Humanities" requirement. That leaves the "Social Sciences/History" and "Written English Requirement".

By the time you have fulfilled these, you may be up to the full 120 credits you need for your degree. If it turns out that you do need additional CompSci, why not just write some certification exams?

So again, I'm not sure why you want to go the portfolio route.

Sorry, not quite true. Your fluency in Spanish and an Ethics exam will fulfill the "Humanities" requirement.
