I have been following the AED newsgroup for a while, and am very disappointed with what has happened there. Happy to be here, though.
I have been profesionally developing software for the past 9 years. I have about 20 credit hours in CS courses from a state university (Towson, MD). Can anyone recommend a good schools to complete my BS in CS/CIS, which will take me the least time, and cost me the least amount of money. Preferrabley one in which I can use my experience towards a degree. I have read a slew of college names, but it seems that most of them offer business degrees. And seriously, how good are online degrees, even if not from a degree mill? Am I wasting my time?
BTW, I appreciate Dr. Bear's efforts, I was admitted into Kennedy-Western, but have since changed my mind. Definitely, too good to be true. Wasted the $50 registration fee, which is supposed to be refundable. I am definitely ordering his book, though!

    Thank you!

You might like to get the "Computer Degrees" book by John Bear and Larry McQueary. I believe it comes out this month, though its arrival seems to have been lost in all the hoopla about 14th ed.

And in the meantime, there's the other book, done late last year for McGraw-Hill, Get Your IT Degree and Get Ahead (for which Tom Head and Mariah Bear did nearly all the work* and which covers, in less depth than the forthcoming one, all of the residential and the online degree programs in the field.

    * I seem to be turning into an imprimatur in my advanced age. The Ten Speed "Best Computer Degrees" book goes to the printer Feb. 6, which means it may be out by month-end. And the Best Education Degrees book has been commissioned and scheduled for late this year. It will be primarily a Tom Head-Mariah Bear production.

Meaning, the book will be available in March or April?

I have the IT Degree book and it's very informative and useful. But I think not the best book for people interested in Distance Learning, since most of the programs described are residential. I have great hopes for the Computer Degrees by Distance Learning book [IMG]

We are hoping for Mid-March, yes. It went off to the printer today, in fact.

FWIW I started on a BS in CIS at UMUC which I found to be a most disappointing experience. Disorganized curriculum and unresponsive faculty. I transferred into the DL BSIS program at UMass Lowell which has just been great w/ well organized, informative instruction. I once waited two weeks for an instructor's reply at UMUC and the longest I've waited has been 48 hours at UML. Generally, UML instructors respond overnight and several have shared their telephone numbers for 1:1 consultation. UML has a weekly chat which is just a great forum for learning. Lastly, the tuition at UML is a bargain in contrast with UMUC. I can't speak about other programs but I would strongly encourage you to consider UML.

Thank you all for taking the time to reply. This has been an exhaustive search. I think, since I waited this long, I will wait a couple more weeks for the book.
