    University of Arkansas

University of Arkansas has great "Cheap!" RA courses.
They will even RENT you the books you need. The cost of a course minus protor fees is less than $300.00 for a 3 credit hour course and that includes the book rental. I have a friend that goes to Purdue in IN and she took several of there courses to hurry her degree along.

    Here is the link!

Make sure you select "credit studies" on the web page.

    Hope that helps!

Southwest Texas State is also cheap like LSU. They will allow your local public librarian to serve as your proctor instead of requiring you to take the tests on a college campus.

thank you very much to all of you who helped me find cheap RA courses... my idea is to transfer them to Excelsior or a similar very-flexible school... i was wondering if any of you has experience with such a college and could give me some advice on what to choose and how to proceed.. thanks!

I had all good experiences with Excelsior and quickly finished a BS I had been working on for years prior to enrolling there.

In my opinion the best option is to download and read the appropriate Excelsior College Catalog:

    http://www.excelsior.edu/pub_page.htm#cc

and then call an advisor there. I found no surprises once I enrolled at Excelsior beyond the information in the catalog. Basically, the college will allow you to earn credit in whichever way you choose and then transfer it to the College after getting approval from any on duty advisor in your department.

I had spent years plugging away at the first 3/4's of my BS degree (2 jobs and a family had priority) and then finished in a very short time once I transferred my credits to Excelsior. I had only to take an indepenent study course and some DANTES and CLEP exams to finish. I am now about 1/2 finished with my Masters degree instead of still working toward my BS which I am certain would be the case if I had not enrolled at Excelsior.

Thomas Edison and Charter Oak are better for some students because Federal financial aid is available for courses offered directly from those institutions. Good Luck!

Glad to hear that you were able to get your Bachelor's @ Excelsior. You had mentioned that you took some DANTES exam. Where can DANTES exam be taken?

    Thanks.

    Thank you for the info.

I am going to enrol @ Excelsior for the B.S/Liberal Arts. I think this is the most flexible program out there. 1 required English Composition course and 30 UL credits.

How did you handle the upper level courses? What exams did you take to fulfil that part?

    Thanks.

The only upper level exam I used was the Dantes History of the Soviet Union. I needed only one other upper level course which I completed through independent study from Southwest Texas State U. Dantes has several upper level tests. The Excelsior pamphlet guide to credit by examination is available from the website and tells which exams are for upper or lower credit.
