    Hi All:

I commute 2.5 hours a day and was wondering if there are any good DL colleges that offer audio-taped lectures or course materials. I have no problem doing other methods of coursework (online, etc.) in conjunction with the tapes, however I'd love to be able to make use of all that time on the road.

I'm looking for an RA college offering business courses, although I'd be willing to enter a non-business program to maximize use of audio lectures, then transfer the credits to a business degree later.

Any help you all could offer would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks!

    My sense it...

Distance courses offered with taped lectures are a venerable and very traditional method of teaching. The University of Minnesota's Indepedent Study program used to offer many of these; my favorite was Music Appreciation taught by tenor Vern Sutton.

With time and change, my sense of the matter is that these opportunities have dwindled. For instance, check out this page from Colorado State University
    http://www.learn.colostate.edu/csun/delivery.htm
It let's you browse offerings by method--online, videotape, telecourses (TV), and correspondence. In other words, you no longer find taped lecture courses there.

Alternatively, you can hunt out these rarities; some must be out there! Or else buy Teaching Company tapes and test out of course equivalents (teachco.com or teach12.com). They used to offer Business statistics--but this may only have been available on video!

One way to make use of your commute time is to use audiobooks to study for CLEP and DANTES exams. This works especially well with the history examinations. There are also a large variety of recorded lectures available from The Teaching Company.
