Newport university is thriving in China although it's unaccredited.

But they throw out the crap"in light of California law, degrees acquired at schools accredited by BPPVE is equivalent to degrees obtained from other American universities.

does that hold water?i know it doesn't...but can you quote something for my reference?

Any recent development on newport at its birthplace?

According to research conducted by John Bear, almost no properly accredited universities will accept credits and degrees from state-approved (but unaccredited) schools. How's that?

Also, the US Department of Education is required to maintain a list of approved accrediting agencies. The BPPVE is not one of them. Newport is not accredited by one of them. How's that?

State-approved degrees seem to enjoy some acceptance in the workplace, but much of it seems to be based on confusion/ignorance of employers. In a recent survey of HR managers, the participants considered state approval to be as acceptable as some forms of accreditation. However, when they were given an explanation of state approval, pointing out that it is not the same as accreditation, their perceptions of its acceptability dropped in a statistically significant fashion. How's that? :)

    Prayer must work, after all.

First, the people who run bad and fake schools prayed. "Lord, give me a means to advertise for free, to say whatever I want without censorship, to look respectable, to remain fully anonymous, and to receive large sums of money electronically."

And the Lord said, "Here is the Internet."

Not satisfied with this, they kept on praying. "Lord, give me a country with more than a billion people, where degrees are so important they are sold from pushcarts outside major universities, and where people will send me lots of money for my useless American degrees.

And the Lord said, "Here is China."

How do I get a slice of this?

    California here I come.

    Let's see 1,000,000,000 X .01 X $5000 = $50,000,000,000.

Mental note - have Bill Gates shine my shoes.

I have always considered the Chinese to be an intelligent people. I didn't think they could so easily get "taken to the cleaners" by an unscrupulious organization like Newport and Century.

Come to think of it, if you look at the web sites of other unaccredited and bogus schools, you find a link to their Chinese affiliation. Talk about taking the "cows to pasture".....this type of venture (scam) can really pay big bucks.

OBSERVATION: If you look at the graduate page of Bircham International University, you will note that most (if not all) of the graduates are Chinese.

John: As in many fake and bad school situations, one crucial issue is whether the buyers know what they're doing, or are being genuinely fooled.

Some of each, of course . . . but I remember that chilling photo in the Chronicle of Higher Education a couple of years ago of a cluster of pushcarts selling fake diplomas, parked right outside the gates of a major university.
