How would you go about setting up a free university?

    After reading the following thread...

    http://www.degreeinfo.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=8402

...I began to wonder how one would best go about setting up a free university on the internet, with grades, transcripts, charter, accreditation, etc.

Any hints? I assume you'd have to get to know some wealthy people and convince them it is a worthy cause to invest/give/donate to.

You'd have to convince some educators to contribute lectures. You'd need some administrators, web developers, etc.

It would be a life-time achievement.

Any suggestions? Anyone else out there already doing this, besides MIT?

    Free University

    Hi WannaJD,

Basically, Michael Saylor of Microstrategy set up a fundation to pay for all the expenses.

Anyway, how is going with your law study?

    Re: Free University

I find myself yelling at the TV when there is an interesting case on Court TV, such as the Cali drag racing accident case.

I actually think I get why the legal minds are not sure yet whether this is a case of manslaughter or 2nd degree murder.

I'm getting there... ;) Law and Order is a lot less interesting when you actually know the law. There really is no suspense anymore.

Now that's worth paying for, nyuk nyuk.

Perhaps it would make the most sense for a university that is already "free" to be the first ones in... They would have the most experience with how to fund the institution. Then, you would have the heavily endowed universities if they felt a need, which is doubtful. Some candidates...

    The US Military Academies
    Cooper Union
    Webb Institute

    Others?
