    Hi guys
I am trying to get a bachelor degree in anything. It will help me in getting promotions in my job, and make me feel better about myself. I have passed the clep test on Educational Psychology, Spanish, interpreting literature, business law, and principles of management. I have the airline transport pilot, flight dispatcher, flight instructor, Instrument flight instructor, multi-engine flight instructor, airframe and powerplant mechanic certificates. Additionally, I have taken the following courses at Everglades College (Nationally accredited by ACCSCT, and part of FL numbering system); English 1101, Intermediate Algebra, Introduction to computers, American Literature, Speech, Introduction to Psychology, Aviation History, Meteorology, Aviation Safety, Aviation Law and Biology. I am getting my associate degree this month at Everglades College. I think the bachelor of Professional Aviation at Everglades College is the best one for me now; however I want your opinions. Is there an easier bachelor degree for me out there?

PS: John and Rick you guys are the best. You provided me the information I needed nine month ago. Thanks to you, I am getting my associate degree this month. I just wanted to let you know that you have influenced my life in a very good way. John your book should be studied by everyone thinking on getting a college degree.

You could always look at the big three-
COSC , Thomas Edison State College , and Excelsior .

You could transfer your credits and possibly complete you BS by testing out with CLEPS and DANTES.

I transfered an AA and several Microsoft Certifications to Charter Oak and was able to complete by BS in under about 4 months by taking 2 upper level classes at UoP and 17 CLEP/DANTES/ECE exams.

It is possible to to do it in a very short time!!

  3. Try taking courses that are related .

Easier? I don't think we know enough about the number or nature of your credits (or their acceptibility to any/all of the "Big 3") to really say. My uneducated guess would be that sticking with Everglades would be easiest.

More useful? Well, that's a gamble. It's my understanding that Everglades is an RA candidate. If they get it, you would be set. If not, your degree will have considerably less utility.

I would recommend at least checking into the "Big 3."

    Good luck,
    Jeff

If Everglades really is an RA candidate then you could transfer the courses that you've taken to TESC. TESC offers quite a bit of credit for aviation certificates, and offers a BSAST with majors in Aviation Flight Technology and Aviation Maintenance Technology. You might even have the requirements for one of these degrees completed already, or at least within a couple of exams of it. You also might be able to pick up both majors without any extra work, depending upon how the credit for your certificates would be distributed.

Everglades College is not a candidate for regional accreditation. In fact, they’re not even an applicant. TESC (as well as many other RA schools) has a pretty firm policy of only accepting RA credits, however, the courses from Everglades could form the basis of portfolio credit. Moreover, TESC will grant you a liberal number of credits for your aviation certificates toward a BSAT.

Unquestionably, the easiest route is to continue at Everglades College. Keep in mind, however, that a degree from an ACCST accredited school is likely to have less utility than one from a regionally accredited institution.

Another alternative is to transfer your credits from Everglades College to another regionally accredited school in Florida (by law they must be accepted). Therefore, you could, Carlos, transfer all your credits to MDCC, BCC, FIU, FAU, UM, St. Thomas, or Barry or into any of the distance learning programs offered by other Florida schools. Moreover, if you were to first transfer your credits to a community college, and then meet any additional requirements (including Gordon Rule) for an AA, all Florida public colleges must admit you as a junior and consider you as having completed all of the general education requirements.

This is correct. I had done a quick search here and found that someone had stated that Everglades was an RA candidate. When I took the time to do the search myself, I found that they are not a candidate with SACS, which is the RA body for that area.

    So...what Gus said.

    Carlos,

I think your best bet would be to go with Thomas Edison State College. The school awards the greatest amount of college credit for your aviation credentials and also offers aviation related degrees. And one of the most important factors of all to consider...the school is regionally accredited. I cut and pasted this directly from TESC's web site....

Undergraduate Programs » Ways to Earn Credit » Licenses & Certificates

If you have already attained certain licenses or certificates within your chosen profession or areas of interest, you may be well on your way to completing a degree at Thomas Edison State College. Thomas Edison State College will grant credit for current professional licenses or certificates that have been evaluated and approved for credit by the College's Academic Council.

Students who have earned one of the licenses or certificates listed must submit notarized copies of the license or certificate and current renewal card (if appropriate) in order to receive credit.

    Aviation Licenses and Certificates

    License/Certificate Semester hours credit

FAA Private Pilot Airplane License 6
FAA Private Pilot Rotocraft License 6
FAA Commercial Pilot Airplane License 12
FAA Commercial Pilot Rotocraft License 12
FAA Instrument Pilot Airplane License 6
FAA Instrument Pilot Rotocraft License 6

(If a student holds both private pilot licenses the maximum credit award is nine semester hours; for both commercial pilot licenses, 18 semester hours; and for both instrument pilot licenses, nine semester hours.)

FAA Air Traffic Control Specialist 60
    FAA Airline Transport Pilot 5
    FAA Flight Dispatcher 7
    FAA Flight Engineer 6
FAA Flight Instructor Instrument Rating 4
    FAA Flight Instructor Rating 4
    FAA Flight Navigator 8
FAA Mechanic Certificate/Airframe and Powerplant Rating (earned after 1966) 67
    FAA Mechanic/Airframe 27
    FAA Mechanic/PowerPlant 28
    FAA Multi-engine Airplane 2

So, to summarize, you can earn a whopping 67 credits for the A&P certification as well as numerous more credits for the pilot and instructor ratings. You can then transfer the CLEP credits and then do a portfolio assessment for your Everglades College credits. If you pursue either a BS in Aviation Flight Technology or Aviation Maintenance Technology through TESC, you may discover that you already have all of the credits you need to complete this degree!!! Nevertheless, if you find that you are short a few credits, you could probably complete these credits very quickly with additional CLEP/Dantes exams. This is VERY do-able!!!

    Hope this helps,

    Cy

    Carlos,

The subject of doing portfolio assessments has been discussed extensively on this web site. If you use the search feature and type in "portfolio assessment" you will be able to pull up a treasure trove of tips and information on creating the portfolio and turning it into credit that you can use with a TESC degree.

Please keep us informed of how everything goes if you decide to go this route.

    Carlos,

You need to post all your educational credits, so that we can review them and offer suggestions towards your degree.
