Can someone give me information on American's D.Min program? It sounds like it is flexible enough to allow a strong biblical studies emphasis - which appeals to me. And their accreditation seems more valuable than Trinity's. :)

My two biggest questions would be -
What is the quality of the instruction? Their faculty seems heavy on ACCS graduates. Not necessarily bad - but it causes me to wonder.

    And, related to that:
What kind of feedback do you get from professors on the coursework in progress? Is there meaningful interaction - or just a grade at the end of the course?

There are a couple ACCS students in the group. I would appreciate any input you can give. Thanks.

As you are aware from my sig line I am enrolled in the doctorate in Christian Counseling. I have enjoyed my course work at ACCS and have found the program a little more practically oriented than my Masters in Counseling. That fact and the biblical basis have nicely complimented the MA.

It is independent study so you do not necessarily have the interaction. I have not taken one of their on-line courses so I cannot speak to that. You do get comments on your research papers & I understand that folks have contacted and communicated with faculty. For the most part I have had no need for the on going communication (other than with my faculty advisor) and have really enjoyed the independent study process.

I think as far as the faculty goes there is a growing list of non ACCS grads (highest degree). LRS at one point had a fair number of LRS grads. I think diversity is good and this is one reason that people like to see degrees from different schools rather than BA-PhD from the same University. It allows you to move outside of one paradigm. Nonetheless, ACCs faculty seem to be quite mixed in perspective (from Charismatic - regular Evangelical) and they seem to encourage diversity within the umbrella of conservative Christianity.

Yes, ACCS' accreditation is more valuable than Trinity's :)
TRACS is a USDoe/CHEA recognized accreditor and that means more utility. Certainly, not as much as RA. Someone else here is pursuing an ACCS doctorate and has found that it can be used for licensure in Tenn (??). My employer recognizes, RA & NA but not UnA.

Bill is the one here earning the doctorate in Biblical Studies and I am sure will chime in.

    Good luck.

Upon what factual data is this assumption made, North? ;)

True, not everyone can be accredited by the University of Liverpool/Canterbury College (??). Ahhh... the glint of the foil from the handy dandy 'accreditation' sticker to paste on the diploma. Does anyone know if the stickers come in flavours. Proud owners can then display these next to their 'Masters Divinity School' diplomas (DPM for six classes??). :D

Since ACCS does not use audio or video tapes (at least in the classes I took) for instruction, the main teaching comes from the textbooks you are assigned in addition to independent research. The assignments are what you would expect in a doctoral program and are not "fill in the blank" type questions, or "what does the author say on page 2" types of nonsense. For instance, a short assignment might be to list and explain ten ways that you agree or disagree with an author's viewpoint on a particular subject (complete with documentation for your views and application to your situation).

The communication I had with ACCS was all driven by me, until I reached the point of the ARP. Then they were contacting me. So yes, I basically got a grade at the end of an assignment, and not much dialogue. Then again, I didn't seek much dialogue. From my experience, ACCS will discuss things with you as much, or as little, as you choose.

After I'm finished with SATS I may want to also get my Bachelors in Christian Ed. Does ACCS require residency. or can I do it all through DL? Also, I'm curious if they will accept my credits from SATS towards meeting some of the requirements of the BCE.

No residency. Call 1 800 488 2528 for your ques re transfer from SATS. I think were the SATS credits/degree applicable there to the ACCS program's content there would be no problem as SATS is approved by the SA Dept of ED, is it not? But ACCS has some limits as to the numbers and types of credits transferable.
