What's an excellent grammar/comp distance-learning course?

    Hello all,

Say, the degree (BA Theology) I want to do from London Bible College does not have any GE, so I need to know if anyone knows of a great grammar/comp course (or courses). I'd rather they not be super expensive, and they may or may not be accredited. It's the quality I'm after for this one.

    Thanks,

Have you ever tried Excelsior College's "Distance Learn" course search site? It's located at http://distancelearn.excelsior.edu/

    Greetings.

I was deliriously happy -- or, perhaps just delirious? -- with the English Syntax course I took from Louisiana State University (http://www.is.lsu.edu/shared_asp/factsheets/factsheets.asp?coursedept=ENGL&coursenumber=2710, 3 s/h credits). Regrettably, I was inducted into the USAF all but literally immediately after completing the course (I boarded the train that would lead me to Lackland a few hours after taking the final exam), so I had little chance to practice my sentence diagraming. Heaven help me, I can't even remember what a ditransitive verb is!

Anyway, the course was a stunning example of, IMHO, what a correspondence course should be. A complete student packet with all I might need or need to know, a swell text book, a student guide filled with the instructors sage wisdom; I was so please with it that, upon returning to civilian life, I almost retook the course. I still might. Absolutely swell, and quite economical! (BTW, I'm slightly less exuberant about the distance learning department at LSU, but I won't drift that far off topic.)

For a very thorough, but more traditional, grammar instruction, LSU has another option available: "Preparation for College English- Grammar" (NC-55: http://www.is.lsu.edu/shared_asp/factsheets/factsheets.asp?coursedept=NC&coursenumber=55, no credit). An absolutely swell course, no credits but very, very cheap! Regrettably, due to those darn vicissitudes of life again, most of what I learned in that course has evaporated too, and I may yet take it again. <g>

While I've given you two sources of grammar education, I haven't given you any for English composition. As you can tell if you've read this far, I'm in no position to advise you on that subject. <g>

    Cordially,
    Richard Kanarek

P.S. While looking around LSU's web site so that I could supply you with links, I enrolled in a non-credit course. It's all your fault! You owe me $50! <g>

P.P.S. Good luck with your studies!

    RKanarek,

Well, now, I can't thank you enough for the reference for English Syntax course I took from Louisiana State University; however, in regard to the $50.00 . . . just be glad I didn't ask about a distance-learning class for making bombs!

    Thanks again,

    Starkman
