    Hi,

I would like to take the cpa exam next year
and I have checked my credentials with
some accounting boards in US. I find that I require
9 additional accouting course credits to
meet the cpa exam requirement. What is the cheapest
way to get these credits through DL? I find that
Louisiana State U independent study suits me. However
the courses require protoring exams which will cost
a lot as I am now living in Australia. Any suggestion?

    Many thanks in advance!

    proctor rule

Louisiana State University's Web page says: "If you live abroad, you must take your exams at an American embassy or American university."

Is the problem that this rule applies to you, and that you live a long way away from the US embassy in Australia?

That's quite a rule -- I think almost any other institution would allow a professor at a local university to be your proctor.

    Hi Mark,

Thanks for your reply! Yes the proctoring rules
apply to me. I have contacted the US embassy
in Australia to help. But they refer me to a
local GMAT proctor in Australia who will charge
me US$150 for each exam. Since there are 3
exams for each course, the total amount
including the tution fee will be very significant
to me. Yes I am sure any professor in Australia
Universities can be the proctor but I just land
here and I really don't know any local professor
who can help. Any suggestion? Thanks again!

Not according to what I quoted above: it specifically says "American university" (and I don't think there is one is Australia). If that is indeed LSU's rule, I would suggest taking the courses from somewhere else.

To find a proctor for my wife Rosie here in Boston, I phoned the switchboards of the local universities one by one and asked for the "testing center", and then asked "Do you have a proctoring service?" Most said no, but I did find someone at Harvard University Extension who is now proctoring all Rosie's exams free of charge.

You'll probably get more suggestions if you list the accounting courses that you've already taken and provide a maximum that you're willing to spend per credit. This database is a good place to start looking, though it's not comprehensive. I notice that USQ has quite few offerings listed.

    Hi Gary,

Your database link is very useful. However I find that nearly all DL courses require proctored exams. My budget is around $100/credit which includes all exam and tution fees.
Any upper level accounting courses will do and I only require 3
courses with 3 credits each. Any idea?

    Hi Mark,

I also asked LSU about the exam protoring, they said any academic staff of local U will do. You are very luck to find the free of charge proctor. Any tips for me to find one in Australia?

Thanks again for all the replies!
