Hi. I'm interested in doing a PhD by distance at the University of South Australia. Does anyone have any information/insight into Unisa? What is their accreditation status? Will their PhD be recognized in North America? I've searched for Unisa in this forum but it is difficult to find information in a timely fashion by doing this. Thanks.

Greetings unc, Yes, I did my undergraduate degree and a post-grad through the University of South Australia. UNISA is the largest uni in South Australia, gradually asserting itself as a major force in the higher education market in Australia. I know of a few PhD candidates at UNISA and all seem relatively pleased. Of course, in choosing UNISA, you need to source the relevant supervisor commesurate to your field of research. I now actually manage an MBA program in association with UNISA and can certainly attest to the professionalism and vision of the university. The University is a self-accrediting university, enacted via the University of South Australia Act 1990 The University of South Australia is subject to periodic audits by the Australian Universities Quality Agency to ensure continuos improvement in the quality of its programs. You can rest assured that a PhD earned at any Australian university (apart from Greenwich University, which is not listed on the AQF Register) will be accepted as equivalent to a US RA PhD. Cheers, George
