Stay away from Saint Regis University.

I submitted an online evaluation with a single sentence describing my background/education.

I subsequently received a reply stating that I was eligible for 2 different PhD degrees as well as Professorship status.

Deciding to play along, I replied suggesting that I would accept one of the PhD's but couldn't afford the fees. Saint Regis University proceeded to discount the fees by 50% and then include various bonus items to "seal the deal".

I further enrolled in their alumni forum and discovered what a joke this really was. Many of the "alumni" are foreign, with all spouting the relative advantages of their degrees and the authenticity of them. Many appeared to have difficulty getting jobs and the appropriate accreditation. There was little if any academic merit to anything that was said in many of the posts.

After posting a message questioning the authenticity of the degrees and University itself (citing threads from this forum), I had my post promptly removed. I re-posted and then was subsequently banned from the web site!

So, in summary, Saint Regis University is a bonafide Diploma/Degree Mill (if you didn't know that already) and you should stay away from them. Associating with them could hurt you more than help you.

Can a place like that be shut down for defrauding innocent people?

If I had money to throw away I would probably get my Jack Russell a doctorate in dog obedience from SRU. After all he deserves the very best!

    Good Boy Bernard!:D

    Dennis: bravo!

Kansasjayhawk: Thank you for putting this mess to rest as clearly and concisely as possible. Those of us who entertain a limited openness to unaccredited study are particularly helped when a crystal clear fraud is made crystal clear even to the most obtuse.

......and if I had any money left over after paying for tuition, I'd get your cats a law degree from SRU.:D

My dog is ordained by the Universal Life Church. I'm working on hiring him out to perform dog weddings.

    Jack Russell?

OK, guys, leave my name out of this. ;)

Seriously, I did get my beagle ordained (1999) through the Universal Life Church--six months after the old pup died.

I actually have more respect for someone (in this case a beagle) with the title of reverend from ULC that I would someone with a doctorate from SRU.

Thank you, Roy, for respecting my beagle-of-the-cloth!

He was gifted as a counselor, always an excellent listener, and never broke confidence with anything I shared with him. Its been several years now and I still miss the old pup. ;)

Not sticking up for St. Regis, but I did the same thing you did. Included 10yr resume in Information Systems plus transcripts from 1 JC only (90 units, couldnt find the rest of my transcripts) 2 weeks later I got a reply saying I was eligible for a Masters and Bachelor's only (Didnt accept either). I signed-up for the Alumni Forum and got quickly and flatly rejected because I was not an Alumni or current student, this was around a month ago.

    Bob,

What's particularly interesting about my educational evaluation was its acceptability despite its succintness. It was literally one sentence. No resume. No list of other attended institutions. No transcripts. No nothing, yet I was still eligible.

As for the alumni forum, why I was given a password is also another mystery, given that I was not an alumni nor did I agree to accept any of the offered degrees.

Alumni are listed with classmates.com - which I disagree with as the University (or whatever you wish to call it) has no legal accreditation in this country. It's sad when Stanford Alumni are listed in the same database as Saint Regis Alumni.

    That's just my opinion.

Roy: it occurred to me upon rereading this loopy thread that I did not make it clear that my bravo to Dennis was about his blood diamonds mot, not about anything relating to your dog.
